Red face 19.785 Gallons!

OK, so the low fuel light was on when I left for work yesterday evening. No big deal, that means I have at least two gallons left. I'll just fill up before I head home in the morning.

My shift ends, I hop in the G and start for home. Oh damn, I need gas! Aw, I'll be fine. Just a quick trip over the Dumbarton into Fremont. I come off the highrise and somehow the low fuel light seems brighter. Is that possible? I pass the Thornton Ave exit and I'm approaching the Newark Blvd offramp when I feel the G hesitate for a second. Maybe it was my imagination? Nope, there's the stutter again. I shut off the radio and turn off the cruise control. All of sudden the G starts to sputter, I'm losing speed. I am NOT going to run out of gas 200 yards from the next exit! Sputter, sputter...60, 55, 50 MPH. I make the exit and shift into 'N'. Gravity will get me to a gas station I hope. A quick glance for traffic at the red light shows I'm clear. A right turn onto Newark Blvd and I see a Chevron up ahead on the right. I can make it...I think. More sputtering and lurching, the G almost dies, another quick burst of power and I make it into the station. WHEW!

19.785 gallons! Damn, my baby was running on love! I'll never let her go thirsty again!

LOL - did a similar thing in my wife's Del Sol once. Your story brought back all those feelings of fear then relief of rolling into the station.

When the gas light starts blinking then you're in "real" trouble...think it kicks in at 19.8 gallons.

How hard was to get it restarted?

Started right up. I guess since it never died completely. When I finally made it to the gas station I turned off the ignition. It was a potentially very embarrassing situation. If I did actually run out of gas on the freeway I probably wouldn't of posted about it, LOL.

I've had it happen once, a mile away from my house at 2:00 AM.

That was a long walk of shame for me.

Well, I was actually asking Liu cus he DID ran dry completely, I've heard from other ppl that fuel injection is difficult to get it restarted...Glad you didnt ran dry on the freeway and if you have to asking for a ride to gas station, wonder how would you able to repaid the kindness, but I am sure some sort of role playing would be involved

Naw, I just would have offered a pic or two of our local Bigfoot. Those pics are quite popular and can command a decent price.

Hey Eloy,
Good thing it didn't happen to you on autobahn in Germany. Running out of gas on autobahn = 470 Euro. Don't ask me how I know.
