My new G

Hello everyone,

I've just purchased a 2011 G37 convertible 7AT with 192k km on the clock. It's got a few imperfections (mainly the interior) and it's possibly been in a fender bender as one light seems to be newer than the other and the hood has some problems lining up, but other than that it's quite nice

I've had it serviced and I'm planning on having the steering wheel repaired same as some used up leather on the driver seat soon. One thing that bugs me is that the heated and cooled passenger seat is broken, it lights up fo a second and then turns off with no sound coming from it.

I live in Europe, so these cars are pretty rare here, so it's been quite difficult to find myself a service, where they'd be willing to work on it (besides the official ones)

Now from the documentation I've got with the vehicle, I've concluded, that the transmission oil has been changed at 175k km and first thing I did was the oil and other fluids changed.

Thing is, I haven't seen any mention of gallery gasket repair done to the vehicle anywhere and that frankly scares me, tho with 192k km on the clock is it even possible there wouldn't be any issues with it had it been the problematic one?

Anyway I'm pretty exited to be joining you lot and hopefully I'll become a valued member of this forum.

You joined the forum 7 months ago, and you're talking about the gallery gasket, so I'm guessing you've been looking for a Vert for a while now. Congrats, and welcome.

As far as the gasket goes... who can say? Fix it when it fails. My 2011 hasn't failed yet, but I've less than half of your miles, for what that's worth.

Redline Goods sells a quality leather wrap for your wheel, perfectly cut to fit. However, you'll want to take the wheel off to do the work, and even then it takes patience and skills.

Yep, 7 months ago I got serious about getting one, but as I said, the European market is pretty poor for them. I've wanted a manual coupe for ever but none were available and if so, then either really old or pretty beat up (or for more than 20k€) so I went with the vert with nice white interior instead, might as well lean into the auto by adding 200kg of roof mechanics 😂. Still it's pretty fast on the shifts and while I can definitely feel the weight, the top down experience is pretty neat on our mountain roads.
When it comes to the steering wheel I found a guy to repair it with new white leather for about 70€ so that's not too bad and I wonder how I know if the gasket failed?

You'll experience low oil pressure and all the things that go along with that... poor response to acceleration, inconsistent idle, engine knocking, etc. However, it won't be catastrophic at first, just a problem that needs to get fixed before it falls into limp mode. You'll probably be able to drive the car to the shop. Repairs can run anywhere between $1500 to $3000 USD, depending on the shop. Except for the gasket itself, it's all labor.

First, for your seat issue, are BOTH seats affected or just one side? There is a small yet common history of certain wiring connectors melting underneath the seat. Some have speculated that the wiring is not of sufficient gauge to handle the current draw from the fan- especially if the seat filter is dirty/ clogged. This thread might offer some insight/ solution. At least it will give you a starting point.

Second, rule of thumb, do not go looking for problems that do not or may not ever exist! The gallery gasket is one of those problem items (the flapper arms for the RHT another). This issue does not affect every car on the road. My 2008 Coupe just clicked 130k miles and, knock on wood, this gallery issue has not arisen. It still idles perfectly fine at 625rpm, gets ≈24-25mpg, and drives like new. IF/when the issue arises then you can deal with it.

In the meantime, focus on preventive and maintenance items like filters (cabin, seat, engine), belt/ hoses, fluid changes, ESCL (if applicable), weatherstripping etc. I would replace the heater hose coupling ASAP as this plastic piece WILL break and cause loss of coolant. And, like many have experienced, it will break at the worst time and location.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new toy. I am sure will enjoy the "topless life" almost as much as I do. Most of the information on this site will be helpful to you, however, as you are in Slovakia, I believe, and your car is likely EURC-spec, there will be some differences. Still, go to NicoClub, navigate to your 2011, and download the full copy of the Factory service Manual.

Great, thanks!

It's only affecting one seat, so probably faulty fan or something like that.
Maintenance vise I've brought it to the Nissan service for all the things you mentioned and I'm trying to provide it with all the care I can on my budget

Just one more question, as you also have the RHT, is there anything I can do about the squeaks? I'm gonna lubricate the rubber seals, but the back can get quite noisy especially on bumpy roads, any tips?

To clarify, my G37 is a Coupe. It is not a 'Vert (they weren't yet available when I bought my Coupe). My BMW is a RHT (Zed/4) and, thankfully, there are no rattles or squeaks that the G37 RHT is known for (odd being they were both designed by the same company for BMW and Infiniti).

That said, there were a few technical bulletins that Infiniti issued to address the rattles and squeaks and I have attached the PDF files to this post. They may be of some guidance. Also, there are a few threads here on the forum which might offer help. Unfortunately, with these cars, it is the "nature of the beast" in that there is only so much that can be done let alone to a 10+ year-old car. Also, there are some rubber "bump stops" in the trunk area that are known to rot and break- these may need addressing as well.

For the rubber seals, I would strongly suggest you use either Shin Etsu silicone lubricant or Gummi Pflege rubber protectant. I have used Shin Etsu since it was introduced/ recommended by Honda for the del Sol back in the early 90's and later for the NSX. It will help freshen the seals and may help with some of the squeaks. With either product, "a little goes a long way."
