New g37 knocking
New g37 knocking
Hi all, I am new here. Been wanting to pick up a G37 for about a year now and finally came across a deal I felt I couldn't pass up. 2009 G37x with 130k on it. Engine was knocking and owner wanted nothing to do with it. Picked it up for it for a little more than scrap prices. Car is pretty much ready to have the engine pulled and a new one put in. I have a line on a VQ37 with around 70k on it for a pretty reasonable price, it is out of a 2014 Q50. After sitting in the car for a few minutes today I am absolutely in love with it and would like to get it on the road as soon as I can.
Mostly wondering if anyone can confirm that this is a rod knock before I replace the engine. Video doesn't show it, but revving it up makes it sound a lot noisier and inconsistent, so kinda wondering if it could be the cats or maybe something I'm missing. Knock does go up with the revs. I find it unlikely it's anything but a rod knock, but if I don't have to replace the engine I would be ecstatic.

Sounded faster than rpms, that usually means tinimg chains or top end.
Remove serpentine belt, still
Drain and/or pull the oil pan, metal or bits in oil?
Pull spark plugs and do a compression check.
Good luck
