New G37X Owner - E55 stablemate

Hello all,

Newbie to Infinity and Gs here, not to cars (too old for that). I was recently looking for a fun daily driver and winter car so I could avoid piling miles on the E55 and instead make it a week-end / fair weather car. I test drove a few very different cars to fulfill that role including Acura TL SH AWD (too big), MB C300 (slow-ish and below par interior quality), Audi B7 S4 (top much of a project car), Volvo S60 T6 (too small).

On a whim I called a local dealer who had just brought in a 2009 G37x. I test drove it this morning and put a deposit on it immediately. The combination of performance, interior quality, nimbleness, won me over. I had heard about those Gs but most of the ones I see around look heavily modified and let's just say not always tastefully...

Love this one, bringing it home next week end and looking forward to a good amount of smiles per mile... I'll be looking forward to engage in this forum as well, as I do most of my wrenching, and love to share DIY tips.

Thanks!

WF

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your soon-to-be new toy.

Browse through the forum and make yourself fully aware of the issues that these cars develop as they age. Specifically:
  • sunroof drain and windshield cowl leaks/ failures;
  • heater hose connector failure; and
  • electronic steering lock failure.
The above are easy to address before they become a problem. I would check for water under the passenger-side carpet before you sign the contract/ take delivery as this may give you some negotiating leverage.

Many will tell you about the oil gallery gasket issue. Some cars are affected, others are not. Only a oil pressure test can hint if there is a problem. In reality, that issue is one that you have to contend with when and if it happens. There is no "warning" nor any "preventive" measure/ remedy.

Again, welcome and good luck with the G.

Thanks for the tips!
Coming from the high perf German sedan world, I'm big on preventive and not letting things get bad before acting ($$$)... not to mention OCD is strong with me so I can't ignore anything that's even slightly off :-)

Thanks again for the welcoming message
