G37s dead engine

Hello everyone ! I’m new here. Owned by all my life.

anways , I was driving hard af for like a full hour then chilled out on some side roads going slow and it just turned off… wouldnt turn back on… tried and it would just be like “kablonk” my dumbass didn’t change my oil for the past 2.5 months cuz I wasn’t driving far only like 5k since my last oil change.
anways … the next morning it tried to start and just didn’t make it and then everytine after that the same noise again and again. So I towed it in and assumed it was the pump or alternator . But the man is saying my engine is shot … but it had oil in it.. he said there was no cap on my coolant but hasn’t told me what specifically is wrong with it.

just replaced my battery 2 weeks ago.

also car is at 190kms but was running like amazing so I’m shook.

also any advice or anything at this point could help.

I live in Canada ! Got quotes for engine replacement with labour around 2200-3000 depending on the motor I choose.

also if I end up having to replace the motor whag simple upgrades can I do while the motor is out.

thanks again

pic for the boys

I don't see why you want want a specific reason of why your engine is shot. If your car cap was really off that means you where running it without coolant.got so hot that it seize up.looking for the problem is a waste of time.
I would go ahead and get a used engine. Maybe throw some headers and engine mounts while it's out of the car.
Cool name btw.

If there was zero coolant in the system, and you were driving hard, likely the engine has seized up. Even if there is oil in the crankcase, a engine can only run so long w/out coolant before the metals expand to the point to where the oil can't do its job.

Either way, it does sound like you will need a new engine.

Welcome to the site. It is a shame your joining under such ominous circumstances.

Does the crank turn over at all?

It could be many things honestly but would say its warped for sure.
if you really want a reason we can say when you where running it it was being air cooled. As soon as you slowed down the cylinders and pistons became hotter and the piston rings expanding as well . The rings pinched against each other and now are wedged between the cylinder and pistons and the engine wont turn.
I would charge you to tell you that lol

The good news is that there are plenty of used VQ37VHR engines out there so finding one with low mileage/ warranty shouldn't be a problem- even being in Canada. That is if you decide to go that route.

Ya after I confirm 100 percent there’s no fixing the issue (I’m stubborn) I’ll be getting a new engine forsure while doing the upgrades cuz why not. Mostly everything I’ve seen is in the states, so I’ll try to be more patient and see what’s around here !

thanks for the support ! Still figuring out how to directly reply to a comment on the thread ! But thanks.

Try to find the silver lining. Buy a low mileage motor, mod it up while it’s out of the car, change that damn gasket everyone bitches about and drop that sucker in.

Vapor lock occurs when gasoline, which is a liquid, turns to a gas, or vapor, in the fuel system before it gets atomized when injected into the combustion chamber. Vapor lock affects fuel delivery not the engines ability to crank. In essence, a vapor locked engine gets starved of fuel. Vapor lock is extremely rare in modern cars and being in Canada, even more rare--even if you were beating the hell out of it.

If the engine turns over normally but doesn't start, then vapor lock would be a .01% possibility. But you made it sound as if the engine is not turning over... This wouldn't be a symptom of vapor lock.

I agree with sobeIPL, find a newer engine and move on.
