Howdy from Texas

I guess I might as well introduce myself.

Bought a really nice (at least I think) 2011 G37 Sedan yesterday for $5K. Black with tan interior and 140K miles. Well maintained two owner car with a lot of records of stuff done, especially from the guy I bought it from. He had it for four years and kept great records of everything.

Brand new tires, no leaks/noises etc., no rips/tears/cracks on leather or dash and so on and so on. Only a couple of minor scratches on the exterior. Main thing is a ding almost in the middle of the hood where some road debris hit a couple of years ago and made a dent about the size of a quarter and cracked the paint. Bummer... I’ll have to see if there’s something I can do about it.

Passenger side fog light lense is broken, but light still works. Ordered new one already. Hood shocks are weak, so need those, too. Came with only one remote, of course, so that also needs to be remedied. Nothing major, just normal wear items for me to improve upon. It’s nine year old, after all. Main thing for me was the mechanical condition.

Not my first rodeo with these things as I’ve had an 07 G35 a little over a year and fell in love with them. Gave it to my daughter earlier this year. She lives five hours away while going to medical school and replaced her 05 MB C230K she had since she was 16. MB was still running good, but being that she lives quite far, I wasn’t too confident. I’m actually thinking about letting her keep the 11 and I’ll take the 07 back when she comes home for Christmas. We’ll see...

Welcome! The G is a great platform with lots of documented information, wishing you miles of driving enjoyment.

If the dents really bother I suggest getting them removed by a PDR specialist.

Thanks! Yup, it’s definitely a great platform it seems. I was thoroughly impressed when I drove the 07 the first time. Been kind of on the lookout for another one ever since.

The new one only has one dent and that’s the one on the hood. I might take to a PDR guy to see what it would cost to pull. Not sure how easy it is since I couldn’t see an easy way to get to the outer shell, but a good PDR guy might still be able to do it. Just need to try to find that one guy who knows what he is doing.

The 07 on the other hand... That does have some hail damage and not worth it to me to have all of them pulled out.

Very broadly speaking, accessible dings of normal size cost $100 each give or take. Inaccessible dings that require external solutions can run more like $200.

Dings on sheet metal creases, or dings that are actually paint-damaged dents... that's more of a body shop thing. But once you start networking and getting quotes, you'll discover that PDR has really evolved over the last 20 years, where results are nothing less than miraculous.

Boy your headlight lens is clean & clear. Kind of uncommon to see that in a 10 year old used car.

They're both very clear with only minor pitting. Not sure if the lights have been replaced or if he just had them refinished. No sign of any accident damage in the front that I could find or any marks in CarFax (not the absolute truth, of course).

The car clearly has been garaged since there's also no Texas sun damage in the paint and even the tint is still in great shape after five years (PO had it installed when he bought it).

While nice-to-have clear headlight lenses, the cynic in my goes right to thinking about a front-end repair.

Or perhaps in prep for sale, the lenses were cleaned and cleared. That could be, too.

Thirdly, like you said, it could simply have been mostly parked indoors during the day.

Yup. Many choices. Been around the block quite a few times, yet I'm by no means a professional, but in case there were any repairs, they sure have been done well since so far I haven't found any signs of them. It's a two owner, 10-year old car with some miles on it, so a lot of things are possible.
