So i just bought a Used 2008 G37 5sp auto two door, I just really want some advice on what are the main things to kind of keep an eye on/regular maintenance. I’ve had the car for about 6 months now and I've replaced the break pads, bled brake lines, changed the oil and a few other small things. Any advice on what else i should do to keep it running as long as possible? Everything to maintain will be done by me.
Ive only had one problem with the car and that’s when i use the drive sport mode it wont shift easily, I’ll shift up and it sometimes doesn't register my shift and sometimes it will. Transmission doesn’t seem to have any problems shifting when in regular D drive mode.

How many miles? If it's a high mileage car, you may want to pass on servicing the transmission. The particles/debris in the fluid could be what is allowing the transmission to engage; draining will result in slippage.
If you're around 60k miles I'd move forward with a drain and refill service. NEVER flush the transmission or allow a shop to. I had the shop that did mine walk me through the process so I knew each step to ensure flushing was not a part of the service.
Could look into a Transgo kit as well if you're worried about longevity.

it has 120k miles. Ive been researching and ive found that some people had the same problem and needed to replace the shift assembly. I might try that first before anything. Maybe a ecu reflash?
Yea, you're at the point of no return unfortunately. Might do more harm than good to service it at this point. I'd start with seeing if there is a reflash available. You should only have to pay about an Hr of dealership fees.

I disconnected the battery for a good 10 mins and reconnected, took it on a drive and now it seems to work fine. If the problem pops back up in the future im gonna go have them do a reflash first

the transmission is fine. I found out it is the shifter assembly. I installed paddle shifters on it and shifts perfect with no problems. Now i need to replace the assembly
@lildrewbie This thread here might offer some help with regards to your shifter not working right. There are three (3) micro-switches that you might want to check before replacing the whole shifter assembly:
It is a tight fit, but you should be able to get to those switches without removing the entire console. There are metal "tabs" that actuate the switches that may need adjusting.

Just a suggestion...
Right on. Im gonna do that first forsure. I only have the problem sometimes, like today it went into ds mode with no problem
