What's up guys. Just picked up a 2015 Q60S awd with 16k miles on it. Love it so far even though I've only had it for a week. Planning on keeping it stock for a couple months, but after that I'll hopefully throw on an exhaust system and test pipes, cai, coilovers, wheels, and some other minor visual mods. Excited to dive into some threads here about all that stuff. Here are some pics.
Thanks man. Why sad about the test pipes though? I am definitely not set on getting them, but I just recently moved to a state that does not do emissions tests, so no reason for the cats haha. I've really been trying to piece together a nice sounding combo of pipes and CB exhaust. Was looking at the motordyne art pipes and the ark grip or hks cb exhaust. Wide open for suggestions tho. I've never had a car this nice to play around with, so the possibilities are endless.
Sad because catless cars smell awful and contribute to ozone pollution. Heck, I used to race a Sentra SE-R in The 24 Hours of LeMons and our car still had the cat. It couldn't do much because the ECU runs open loop at idle and full-throttle, where, you know, the engine spends all its time while racing. But still, we did our part for the environment.
I can say the smell of test pipes can get annoying. Just remember almost any mods you do are going to require a tune to actually get your moneys worth out of them.
Yeah I've heard a couple things regarding the smell. Never had them on any car before, though. Is it really that bad? It doesn't last forever either, correct? As for the tuning, I was thinking of getting the cbe, test pipes and intakes done all at the same time and just get the tune done then. Might go with the admin ones. Have heard good things about them despite the hefty pricetag.
The smell is unburned gasoline. It will stink for as long as you run test pipes. While you may not smell it much, everyone behind you sure will. Particularly at idle and full-throttle when the ECU runs open-loop.
