I think different people will treat 'fun' differently here.
I've never done a burnout or a planned drift in this car and never will. This car will never see track and that should be the only place for anything that could endanger others in any way.
I do have her @ss step out slightly every so often. TC is relatively lax on this one, but not to the point of being dangerous, imo. This is what you'll get with any rwd car so that's something we have to live with.

A semi-spirited drive through the twisties or a top-down summer evening stroll to get froyo is my kind of fun these days. Chirping tires? I'll leave that to the civic / cobalt crowd at the nearest fast food gathering. 300hp does not provide an adequate thrill when you can have 200+ on 2 wheels.
If you want to test the limits of your car and improve your driving skills, go to a real track, have an instructor show you the lines, and push it beyond your comfort level.

Never did, or understood burnouts myself. Guess I never saw the point in destroying my property for entertainment? Also explains why I'm not a gambler I guess?

You've never done it in this car . I couldn't agree more. track the car all day and tear up the drag strip but OP is going to do what OP is going to do. I'm the first one to recommend a track or strip but an empty parking lot is the next closest thing to a controlled environment and if someone's going to get a little loose and explore the car for the first time, I'd rather they do it there than on the other side of the intersection from my mother, brother, fiance, etc. I took mine to an empty parking lot as soon as it dusted my area so I could see how it handled at different speeds, turns, braking pressures, etc..

I think the OP is referencing the Chirp you hear from the exhaust videos posted on the forum. Trying to replicate that? Go for it, I say; but in a controlled or environment that does not impact anybody else if you have a mishap.

By the way you articulate your posts I'm assuming you do not fall in the "younger members" group I referenced and I may be coming across as condoning jack-assery. My idea of fun is carving up the country back roads in my area while visiting family. I love it. Heck, I even enjoy going out for a treat myself every once in a while. More of a milkshake man myself.

Lastly, can FWD 140HP econoboxes even chirp tires??

Yes, they can. At least manual trans cars can.

Yep, any car can chirp tires with a manual. haha. Lower power won't give you a burnout or a good pull, but you can definitely chirp while dropping the clutch.
Also, cheaper, lower power cars usually have crappier tires, which are even easier to spin.
Throw some thin low resistance tires on anything and you'll be chirping like a bird.

Another option for having legal (and relatively low speed) fun with your car is autocross. SCCA is one of the more popular ones. It's a lot of fun, pretty safe (unless you are being really stupid), and you'll learn a lot about your car.

My personal preference is a circuit (as I previously mentioned). There are always better drivers out there who are willing to help you improve. The downside is that you'll have pretty serious wear and tear on your car and will have to maintain it appropriately. Depending on the driving style, it might start costing you quite a bit too. But it's so much fun!

HAHA! Nah. Still relatively young, but had a quicker car before and got tired of dumping money into it. Also, met all kind of good and bad people as part of the racing (street and track) community. I guess you cannot have good without the bad.

Thankfully I live in a suburb and not the city itself. I can't deal with stop lights or stop signs on every block and cameras on every other block. Plenty of places to go above 30 here...

Maybe the OP should participate in a HPDE.

Wow, learn something new everyday in the auto world

Agree, I think it's more fun anyway. It's why I started a thread asking people to post videos. I have a fun time watching them. I love doing the courses at summit located near me. The driving defense courses are tons of fun and the instructors really push your limits. They do everything from pushing carts at you to pulling cones across the road as you're going 60 to have you avoid them. Eyes down the road ahead as you push through a corner at 70, wet track, and the list goes on. Really need to get back there as it's been a few years.

Unfortunately, the track isn't the option most people pursue so an empty parking lot is an outlet. That said, I just saw a video of a guy drifting in one and managed to hit the only telephone pole in the area lol. I remember while in HS a girl totaled her dads Benz while learning to drive by doing this. The amount of new users popping up at 16-18 y.o. is astounding and I'm terrified for them. I got into trouble in a Yaris when I got my license...I would've certainly killed myself in a G37 at 16.

Guess you're only as old as you feel Kiseliok lol. I won't guess, but if you're around my age (27) you had me fooled. You articulate in a way that makes you come across with a little more...seasoning? I assumed the same about another user, Jonesmiester, until I saw him post a pic of himself. Comes across older than he is.

Here:
https://calendar.google.com/calendar...ml#eventpage_6

And here:
Solo (AutoCross) - WDCR SCCA

It costs the whole of $55 and will be the most fun you've ever had in your car, plus you have almost 0 chance of killing yourself or an innocent party, or damaging your car.

And for the OP: Go do this, please.

lol! I saw a new panigale off-roading with mud tires so anything is possible with enough will (and cash).
Great conversation and links in this thread though! Hopefully some youngins will take a note.

lol there's no way. I'm picking up another toy to have some fun with. The G is just too expensive for me to throw around a track or go crazy with. Thought about it with the G for a long time but when I figured out the cost of everything I pulled the plug on it. I can't pay to play with this toy lol. Not like that.

30 is somewhat scary to me man, not gonna lie. I was a 2 sport athlete in HS and played ball in college, joined the Navy at 24 and thought I'd never age but I can feel it creepin up on me a bit. Find myself pulling more stuff, longer recouping, old injuries creeping up and bothering me etc...

Just now getting back into modding cars after a 3 year hiatus and just the Stillen CAI install kicked my butt lol. I remember swapping motor mounts and doing full bolt on installs on my friend's Mazda, and my own, until 2-3 A.M, waking up and getting back at it by 7 the next morning feeling great.

We are not so different, you and I.. Army vs Navy (although quite a bit earlier), Mazdas back in the day, etc. 30 made no difference, honestly.. But I do have to be careful at the gym these days - hurt my back a bit in May and took me almost 2 months to recover! Still feeling it a bit, actually. hahaha.

I did a grounding kit on another member's G recently and remembered why I stopped modding. What a pita!! lol. And that was an easy thing to do, overall.
Then I decided to swap the bulbs in the tail lights and was cursing the engineer for days! Those tabs were IN there.
So now I have a grill to replace ... and totally dreading it. Maybe one day.

@Pope - shuddup! I'm not getting off your lawn. :P

If tires aren't warmed up, the rear can kick out a little bit with TC off. Can easily be controlled to keep it in the lane. Not too violent imo.

However, once the tires warm up, no more squealing even with TC off.

Thank you for your service brother

I totally feel you there. Stillen CAI install had me making up curses as I went. Hamstrings were tight for a week lol.

My gym days came to a grinding halt after my torn labrum and meniscus tear. No surgery on either and I was feeling it while pulling at the bumper from different angles. Still enjoy working on it but like yourself, I have to work myself up a little to get out there and do it...drink more beers as I work on it than I remember ..
