Question How bad is $9k of driver side damage on a 2012 G37xS coupe?

Hi, I'm looking at a 2012 G37xS coupe that had a $9k repair job to the left side (drivers side) a few months after it was first sold in 2012, no rebuild title. How big a red flag is this?

The panels seem to line up ok, and the 10 min test drive was fine, but we only went down short rural roads.

$20k USD+tax with 50k miles.

Any other advice is also appreciated.

depends on where it got hit. like drivers door, front fender, or rear bumper.

for a point of reference i bought my 2012 g37s coupe in april 2016 for 23.5K with 37k miles. If you dont need to make a car purchase really quick i would suggest waiting and looking for another car.

Welcome to the site~
For reference here's my 09 G sedan after I was T-boned, about $8200 damage. Needed 2 new doors, new pillar & rocker panel. Luckily it was a solid repair w/ good paint and panel matchup. This is something you'd have to really go over carefully, closely examine the paint match, the panel gaps, and any noises during the drive as well as how it tracks, especially under heavy braking.

I couldn't get any more info on the damage. Otherwise, I get the feeling this might be an ok-ish price if it had a clean title.

Thanks for the input, I'll add those to the check list if I go see it again. When you say "how it tracks, especially under heavy braking" would that be a listing to one side, or a wobble that I'm looking for?

Find another vehicle that was not in an accident.

I just did a NADA price pull on a 2012Xs with Limited edition package and not excluding any features and a clean retail at that mileage is $20,675. No way I'd pay that amount for a car that had 9k in damage.

I got a X with the premium package with 34k miles for $20,500

I hit 2 deer at one time, one went over the hood, and the other down the driver side. All cosmetic damage, had the whole car repainted (minus the roof) because it was the moonlight white (QAA) paint. Insurance covered it all ($12,300). As long as a reputable shop did all the work, and there weren't any frame alignment issues, you may be able to talk them down quite a bit on the price.

Either have them drop the price or look for another car.

$20k for a Salvage (Rebuilt) Titled G is not acceptable. The prices have come down reasonably on these. I would leave it unless it was repaired impeccably AND the price was reduced considerably

It really doesn't take much to do $9k in damage anymore. If you are even considering it, you'll need to pay to have the car professionally inspected. If the repair is top notch and you can *really* beat him up on the price, maybe. God knows whatever dealer you trade it to down the line will certainly offer you thousands less because of it.

It's a carfax world. No one wants used cars with previous damage regardless of how well they are repaired.

You guys are right. Every time I hear a creak or a rattle it's going to come up in the back of my mind.

Bloody awesome car though...
