1 Year With My G!
1 Year With My G!
Hi Everyone,
I’ve been reading the forum for over a year now. I started shortly before buying my 2013 Slate Blue G37x Sedan 7A in August of 2015 and it’s been a great resource. My previous car was a 1999 Ford Mustang which I had for 14 years (since highschool). That car had shorty headers, a full exhaust with highflow cats, cold air intake, underdrive pulley and aftermarket Mass air sensor. I live in Chicago (on the northwest side) and chose the G37x because It was the fastest 4 door awd car in my price range.
My first year with the G has been pretty good. My three main gripes with the car itself are the poor fuel economy (I average 14.5), annoying transmission drone/hesitation when cruising at low rpm and the ride quality/noise ( I blame the Goodyear tires it came with). However, overall I love the car and am very happy with it. The gas mileage, IMO, is to be expected because 90% of my driving is done in the city and involves relatively short trips and my heavy right foot. The transmission drone/hesitation gets better with time, but I recently unplugged the battery so It’s back. The Goodyears will be replaced in the next couple of months ( I plan to make a separate post about tires) which I hope will improve things (the roads in Chicago are horrible).
Two other things that I’ve experienced in the last couple of months are getting my car keyed and installing a stillen gen 3 intake. Both of those things were disappointing. I’ve ordered some touchup paint and plan on trying to fix the scratch my self. I also plan on removing the intake soon (I plan on a separate post for that too)
.
Thanks,
ElmizmoG37

Took a while for your first post, but glad to hear your review. Sorry to hear about getting keyed, that's happened to me before (prior to our Gs) and it's a shame people can suck so bad at times
And look forward to what your intake issue was, they don't do much for our cars, but do look and sound preTty good in most cases. Brad

Thanks guys! This was actually my first post to any forum ever. I usually find that what I’m looking for has already been covered and never really had anything new to add.
I still plan on posting something more detailed with pictures on my issues with the intake later on when I have more time… But really the bottom line is that it doesn’t fit as well as I expected (I think technically this too has been covered before..) . The upper driver side pipe makes contact with the shock tower and both lower pipes make a squeaking/rattling sound when accelerating from a stop. This has gotten a lot better since I added a piece of rubber padding with double sided tape between the shock tower and pipe, and I inserted rubber fuel hoses (which I cut a slit into) around the openings where the lower pipes go through. But the squeaking is still there and it really bothers me that the system was designed like this and the pipes make so much contact.
To be fair, I installed the intake about a month ago and have gone back and forth between loving it and hating it almost daily. My wife doesn’t notice the squeaks, only I do… and I am a bit picky about my car. The sound at higher RPM is awesome, but at lower RPM (4k and below) insided of the car where I spend most of my time it sounds pretty much the same… thought it already had a very nice intake growl to begin with. There does seem to be more power too, though I havn’t been to the track since installing it. Again, to be fair, If I had these exact same issues with my mustang or even a new model Mustang I would probably be fine with it. But I consider the G to be a nicer/luxury car and plan on keeping it for a long time. I worry that this will lead to more rattles as the car gets older. My original plan was to go to the track, and if the car was quicker keep the intake… but I can’t get over the little squeaks everytime I leave from a stop. There are a couple of other things about the intake but the fit is the main one.

Sorry about the getting keyed issue as well, people really can suck sometimes. Curious also as to what your issue was with the Stillen intake?
