Car Fob Recognition After Battery Boost
Car Fob Recognition After Battery Boost
New to this site, I just replaced my battery and now it does not acknowledge my key fob whatsoever.
Initially I tried boosting the car battery as it was dead. In the process of doing so there was the normal sparking on the terminals but with the level of crap build-up on the battery terminals I never could get a good connection with the booster cables. So a friend took me down to the closest auto supply store and I purchased a new battery. After swearing extensively I replaced the battery, I get all electronics working it seems but the car won't start as it thinks there is no key within proximity to the vehicle.
I don't think the key fob is the problem since it wasn't an issue before this problem started, I also tried inserting the fob into the port and it still does not acknowledge it being there.
Any ideas?

So pressing the start button results in absolutely nothing?
What do you mean you got all the electronics working? If you're able to get it into accessory mode then it is recognizing the fob. Most likely the issue then is with the brake interlock.

Thanks, what happens is that the interior lights work, dashboard lights, etc., I cannot get anything to with the start button to work, the dash does not acknowledge the fob, its like its not there with me.
Funny though if I hold down the lock & unlock, the dash hazard lights blink for a sec recognizing that I am holding down the buttons. I'm wondering if this is an issue with the proximity detection?

Very strange. Are you able to unlock the doors with the push button on the door handle (or unlock button on the fob) or do you need to use a key? If key, then it definitely sounds like something with the fob communications within the car is broken.
I don't see how a battery replacement would affect this function, but it all goes back to getting the polarity reversed which may have blown certain circuits.
Brake interlock is the switch actuated by stepping on the brake when starting the car. It's a moot point as you're not even able to get it into acc mode.
Does the fob receptacle accept the fob only way way or you're able to insert either end in? Only one end of the fob contains the inductive antenna.

Thanks, the fob will not unlock the doors, not sure on the push button, I don't think that worked if memory serves me correctly.
The fob went in either way and made no difference.
I really don't think I got the polarity wrong as I work in electronics and understand such things, I thought maybe the current surge did something.
