Potential G37 Buyer
Potential G37 Buyer
Hey everyone, my TSX got totaled last Wednesday - a school bus side swiped my car when I was at a stop at a yellow light turning red and she was turning left.
I'm looking to buy a G37 now, but don't really know where to begin and what the best prices would be.
I'm looking at ~$20,000 budget.
I can drive either a coupe MT or a sedan, but definitely a coupe AT is out of the question.
What should I look for in purchasing a G37, any advice?
If you need more information, let me know.
Thanks,
Tru

Hello well let me tell you a manual sedan is so much fun and if you want a driving experience go with the 6 speed, a manual sedan is hard to come by, these cars are really realible and need proper maintenance, make sure it has not been abused and the clutch is in good condition, the sport coupe has nice goodies such as big break kit, viscous limited slip differential, sport tuned suspension etc! With your price range I'm sure you can find one with mid 50k miles
Always request a drive at highway speeds. A lot of G's exhibit some sort of high pitched whining noise going at certain speeds in certain conditions. Causes range from worn weather stripping on the door, to ECU hums, throttle control module resonating with electronics, and so on. Not all have this problem, but if it does, there's a chance you'll have to just deal with it, as even after finding the cause, you might not like how much it would cost to fix (and it might not even be a permanent fix)
For the MTs, be aware of loud throwout bearing noise, driveshaft bearing squeals, and worn clutch slave cylinder. The former two you can replace, but the noise will eventually return, at least for the throwout bearing. The clutch slave cylinder you can replace entirely with aftermarket and never revisit again.
If it comes with rear spoiler, check the mount and see if it's flush to the trunk lid. A good number of them aren't installed properly. Also check the rear splash guard if it comes with one. The end of the splash guard should meet where the rear bumper indents for the exhaust outlet portion of the bumper. Many were not installed properly either from what I can tell.
Other than that, it's the usual checks for integrity - checking for worn out jack points (it will hint how often it's been worked on), body work, handling, etc etc
