From a 1991 G20 to a 2012 G37S sedan
Hello my G37 siblings! I finally purchase my dream machine.
2012 G37 Sedan Sport 7AT
K52 Blue Slate
29k Miles
My first car is a 1991 Infiniti G20 which I still daily drive. I bought it when I was 18 and now I’m 35. In 2007 I replaced my motor with a Sr20VE which still runs strong. The chassis has over 340k miles, but to me it still looks like were in the year 1995. Earlier this year my automatic seatbelts stopped working. I brought the P10/G20 to the Infiniti stealership and the service people were amazed of the condition of the P10. The seatbelts are lifetime warranty BTW. I was given a Q50S loaner for about a week.
Because of driving the Q50S for a week, I was in the market to purchase a Q50S. Before fully committing, my buddy had me borrow his 2010 G37 Sedan Sport 7AT. I was impressed. The Q50S was smoother and more comfy but not by much. Powerwise, I thought they were equal. I really like the interior of the G37 better. Q50 was too much of a computer. The G37 felt more like my G20, but way more advanced. The exterior looks of the Q50S is gorgeous, but I have also dated the less sexier/chubbier sister when I was younger. They usually love you more anyway J.
Like all car enthusiast, say buh bye to our savings account and other financial priorities. However, I do have one question.
Since my car is under factory warranty, could I bring it into the stealership and have them check out the car and correct any warranty related items at no cost? Or do I have to say “I found oil/fluids on the ground that came from the G and the car is shifting hard” for them to check the car out? The G37 runs great. I just want to have it checked out since the warranty will be over soon.

Welcome to the site, IMO you made the right choice, the G37 w/ Sport package is a great overall package. And IMO the G looks better than the Q50, and I think you'll find 95% of us around here feel the same (we're hoping the new Q coupe doesn't follow suit).
That said, as far as warranty and TSB (technical service bulletins) it's usually best to say a symptom from the TSB is occurring so they'll give it a look. Being a 2012 your AT should be up to date. You can also have them run your VIN# to see if any TSBs have been performed.
BTW, awesome G20, 340k miles is quite the tally. Any pics of that die-hard?

Hey g37socal, we are in the same position here. I just bought my 2012 g37s Sedan a few days ago. I confirmed with Infiniti USA that my car has factory warranty until Nov, 2015. I want to take it to the "StealerShip" and get everything fixed before expires. I'm also considering extended but I don't know if it's worth it. Some people say that reliability is not an issue with the G's. My main concern is the drivers seat, the part of seat that holds your tights its kind of falling down & the steering wheel is peeling. Now the engine, the only thing I see is the throttle body filters that I need to replace.

The 4/60 basic warranty is more flexible, but also does not cover wear and tear. People have had good luck getting the steering wheel trim replaced since it was notoriously easy to peel. Seat replacements are a little more difficult to have completed and it will vary dramatically from dealer to dealer. These are generally considered cosmetic wear and tear items and dealers don't want to run the risk of Nissan denying the warranty claim and leaving them to foot the bill. Your best bet is to go to each of your local dealers and test the waters.

I see you are also from San Diego :-)
Our city is extremely forgiving when it comes to long term wear and tear on a vehicle.
Almost no precipitation to speak of, temps rarely reach 100F, traffic is manageable, no bugs to speak of, few trees dropping sap....this only thing is the dust/pollen, but that is easily removed during the weekly washing. There's also the trucks on the highway, but you can avoid those pretty easily by not driving behind them.
My 2004 G Sedan had a 100K miles when I traded it in and it still looked brand new. Almost all of the blemishes on it came from the time when I lived/worked in LA and Dallas.
