Another Newb with an '08!
Another Newb with an '08!
Just wanted to say "Hi". I just picked up a black '08 G37s, 6mt, with only 54,000 miles on it.
I know this is blasphemy... but I bought this older model because I essentially needed a beater. I needed something that could haul the wife and kid in a pinch, but I wanted something fun to drive. I also needed something that I wouldn't feel awful about making sleep outside 4 or 5 days a week in an airport parking lot.
I've been 8 years without a sports car, and just couldn't take it anymore. I've now spent 2 days with my G37s... and I'm already emotionally attached to this car. HOLY CRAP is it fun to drive. She is pretty quick in a straight line, but I'm simply amazed at how hard she corners and brakes. Absolutely zero body roll. This is a new experience for me... I've simply never driven anything like this. I keep trying to find excuses to go to the store or run an errand for the wife.

I've decided for a "beater" I sure am spending a lot of time rubbing it.
I picked this thing up from a slimy used car salesman who didn't disclose some accident damage before I drove 5 hours to go pick it up. Carfax said "Sideswipe accident, no damage noted". All the pictures that I viewed showed a pristine car, and the dealer assured me there wasn't a mark on her. Yeah right.
Right now she is a great "50 foot" car. She looks awesome from 50 feet away. Get closer and start looking and you see how rough she really is. The previous owner took care of it mechanically, but did NOTHING to keep the exterior up. At some point, there was some light damage done to the back right 1/4 panel and the passengers door. Whoever tried to fix the damage WAS AN IDIOT! The scratches weren't sanded out, it was sprayed black, and I'm not sure it was shot with clear. Think it was just waxed to hide it. I'm eventually going to have those 2 panels sanded, painted, and cleared. As for the rest of the car... the poor thing hasn't been rubbed lovingly in at least 2 years. Water is completely flat on all surfaces.
So... next steps are to revive her. I'll start in about a week with the orbital:
1) Clay bar
2) Cleaner
3) Polish
4) Wax
She has a fresh oil change. Thinking about doing the tranny fluid and brake fluid just so I know they've been done. Probably need to look at the filters. Probably get the coolant in the fall.
What else would you guys do to a "new to you" G?
I find myself staring at the Stillen Long Tubes... a lot.

'14 Grand Cherokee Overland. Red. Only option we didn't get is the seat back entertainment. Figured the way tech goes, the entertainment system would be obsolete quickly. The kid just hangs her tablet on the back of the seat when we travel.
My previous beater was my wife's hand me down. '00 Dodge Dakota quad cab. Good truck... but it was time for her to go.
I'll start the rehab on the exterior of the G37 on Thursday or Friday. I'll post some before and after pics to this thread. This is after I brought her home and knocked the bugs off of her.

Ah, so it's really not a beater (I would say the cherokee earns that title) but more of a fun car. Not too shabby. Looks like the previous owner chromed your wheels and while I'm not a fan of that look it goes with the black paint.
Chrome wheels are definitely not my style. I'm more of a natural alloy guy. If I could find the right rims, gunmetal might look pretty good. Honestly, that's pretty far down the list of priorities right now.
