'08 G37 for my wife

This past Friday I got my wife a nice black '08 G37 Journey. The car only has 38.5k miles and was serviced by the dealer at every 3750 mile service interval. The car is stock with only brakes and tires as major repairs/maintenance. We bought from a friend who was the orginal owner.

This car replaced her '05 BMW 325Ci which had almost 100k on it. She really liked the BMW and I was looking to replace it with a 328i. After finding a couple of 328i's and getting no response from the sellers we took that as a sign that we should buy the G37.

The window sticker shows that the car has the Premium and Sport packages along with illuminated kick plates, body-color splash guards and the trunk net and mat.

Although staggered wheels look great, I don't like them because you cannot rotate the tires. I'll eventually look to do something about that - something involving stock wheels if possible. I'll be reading through the forums to see what's possible.

I also noticed that the tops of the headlights are showing some very minor fading. I'm hoping to find some headlight shields that will keep it from getting any worse.

I thought my Evo was pretty fast at just under 300hp but it's not as powerful as my wife's car - and she cares nothing about going fast

An 08 with less than 39k miles on it is a good find!
I'm sure she will enjoy the car. When I first got my G, I did not care much about going fast either. Driving the car has made me start caring! I'm hooked on performance!

You can get those headlights looking as good as new with a restoration kit you can buy at any auto parts store. It is basically a series of finer and finer sand paper with a drill attachment, along with some polishing paste and cloth. It will literally make that plastic crystal clear again, for about 25 bucks.

Well I've learned a few things about the G37 over the past year and a half.

This less than 4k mile oil change interval is getting old. Thankfully my wife doesn't drive that much but it seems like I'm changing the oil every other month.

The staggered tire set up is getting gone. I bought another set of staggered wheels so I'll be using the fronts all around or the rears all around.

Something is going on with the brakes. When we got the car, it had pretty bad brake shake in spite of a fairly recent brake change. Since then I've replaced the rotors and pads and that fixed the problem but now I think I'm getting the shake back - although it might be the wear in the tires that's making me think so.

Not that the car is all bad. I love the noise of the exhaust and it certainly is fun to drive. The black looks amazing when it's clean.

You might consider going to a full synthetic oil and change every 7k miles if those frequent changes are getting tiresome.

As far as the rear tires causing the vibration, if it only happens when you apply the brakes then you can scratch the tires off the list.

You may be having uneven pad buildup on the rotors. Try several (6-8) hard brake runs from 60 down to 10, never coming to a full stop to scrub the rotors and see if that helps.

I'm using Mobil1. I might try the hard stops. I did that when I bedded them in when I put them on.

Ok, you should be able to extend to 7k miles for your OCI unless you're doing severe duty.
