Getting acquainted with car

Hi, I bought a 2010 G37; excuse me if any of this sounds silly, this is my first post-90s car:

1. I think the rear defroster is broken. When I press the front defroster button I feel the heat from the vent and it gets defrosted. But when I press the rear defroster button nothing happens.

2. I use google maps a lot when I plug in my phone; is there a way for me to listen to the radio and have the google maps navigation come through the stereo like it does when I'm in ipod mode?

3. When I drive long distances(50 miles) I feel like the car is getting warmer inside. I understand the engine heats up when it's running, so this is normal right? I've checked that my coolant level is slightly above the minimum level.

4. Is there a list of specific fluids I should use to maintain my vehicle? Not all of them were described in my manual.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site & congrats on your first post-90s car, you picked a good one

The rear defroster is an element in the back glass that heats the glass panel to melt any frost, you won't have any air flow back there.

Not sure about number 2, I don't have navigation in mine

It's normal for the climate control to fluctuate as you drive, mine goes up and down a few degrees on long drives, it's typical for this system.

As far as fluids, I haven't done anything other than oil, I use synthetic 5w/20 but the manual recommends 5w/30, there should be info on the site using the search, google the specific fluids in question, or contact the dealer.

Have fun w/ your "modern" car

Welcome to the forum. Brad has already answered most of you questions, but I'll take a stab at Question 2.

As far as I know, audio will only come in when that mode is selected in the screen. i.e. bluetooth sound will only stream in when you have bluetooth selected. As such, I don't think you'll be able to listen to the radio and have google maps come through at the same time. In ipod mode, it just reads all incoming audio as audio, regardless of whatever app it originates from.

That's just my experience, some of the tech wizards here might have a workaround.

Thanks guys. I don't have the navigation package either, I plug my iphone into it. I can use google maps and listen to the radio by turning google maps on and then switching to radio. Directions will automatically replace the radio audio. I'm confused why I can stream bluetooth google maps audio but not ipod audio; I have the premium but not navigation package.

I am going to the dealer to see about that rear defroster; the service guy said as long as the window isn't cracked it would still be under my warranty. I'll ask for a list of recomended fluids(power steering, antifreeze, etc there).
