Performance questions!
Hi guys! So I finally got my 2013 g37 sedan!! And i love everything about it, for now the performance is great but o know sooner or later ill get used to it and get bored. I'm knew to performance upgrades Nd was wondering if you guys can give me some ideas on what I can do to my car to make it faster, and won't leave me empty in my pocket! I live in California so I would like the mods to be street legal!
The VQ37VHR motor is pretty optimized from the factory, so I don't think there is much you can do that's low cost and will yield measurable results (note that High Flow Cats are not legal here in CA).
If you read this article here, you will understand what I mean: Nissan 370Z Review; Engine (VQ37VHR) > 370z.com > 370z.com - Magazine

Well the best and most noticeable mods will be test pipes or high flow cats. Both are illegal in CA but ohh well haha. I run tests pipes and live in socal. Other mods then are a cold air intake, cat back exhaust, check out the M370 motordyne intake manifold and an uprev tune after you have all your bolt on mods.
Welcome to the site, congrats on the new G
socketz67 pretty much summed it up, for a limited budget and Cali smog checks it's best to stick to more visual mods and maybe a cat-back exhaust.
It takes a lot of coin to really make significant gains from the VQs, you'll gain a little here & there w/ exhausts/intakes but not much. I'd focus on suspension, better tires, nicer looking wheels, and a few personal touches to set your G apart like front & rear spoilers, grill accents, etc. It all adds up pretty quick but at least you won't break the bank like you would if you wanted serious power increases.

The dual intakes on the stock do not look real restrictive, but apparently Stillen has made progress on an ultra long tube design for our motors. 14+HP seems high for a CAI.

For intakes I'd recommend one that is pretty easy to remove and doesn't involve any cutting for fitment since you live in Cali, in case you have to re-install your OEM intake for your smog checks.
