decisions

Hey guys, recently joined the forums and i gotta say the difference among this forum and the e90post/audizine forums is crazy. I'm looking to upgrade from an 09 honda accord v6 sedan to something more sporty. I was torn between the 335, g37, and the a5. I noticed you guys complaining a whole lot less about your cars than the other two.

I can only afford to buy a used g37 so i was wondering if there is anything i should look out for before i buy. Any particular years or options i should make sure i get. Also wanted to know if the awd makes the car safer to drive in the rain/snow.

Always wanted the g37 maybe i shouldnt have compromised the first time around

Welcome aboard.

Yes, there are some legitimate complaints but not many and not nearly as widespread as many other models. As with any car, it's not perfect but with a few notable exceptions there's not much to legitimately complain about.

Driving in the rain is not a problem with rwd with proper rubber. Awd helps on take offs in the snow and possibly somewhat better control. Really though, having proper tires for the weather is about as equally important as exercising common sense in inclement weather. When it's raining or snowing you shouldn't be driving like a nut. I suspect if I owned a awd car, i'd still be using winter tires in the winter.

You don't specify if you're looking for a coupe or sedan, but do note that the sport version of the awd sedan is FAR LESS sporty than the same of the coupe.

AWD is also heavier, and has a more complicated driveline. Go with the 6mt, changing the gearbox oil is alot less complicated than that of the 7at. There is the weak CSC (slave cylinder) that's prone to leakage around 40-60K miles (give or take) for some. If you insist on the automatic, take one for an extended test drive to be sure you're comfortable with the characteristics of the trans. Some have complained of gear hunting, delayed downshifts, etc.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply! I was looking into the coupe because it looks a lot better IMO than the sedan. 6mt isn't an option for me since I might have to share the car once in a while. Sorry if its a stupid question but with the 7at I wouldn't have to worry about the slave cylinder would I? My driving characteristics change depending on the weather so maybe the rwd with decent all seasons should be ok.

One more question do those of you with the coupe find the backseat usable. I tried sitting in it at a dealership but I imagine a 30min drive wouldn't be too great

No csc on the 7at. Mainly the most common complain on the automatic is the shifting logic (or lack of it). I'm the wrong person to comment on all season tires as I don't believe in them (at least not here in chicago). Maybe if I lived down south, all seasons would be suitable for winter where there is little/no snow and just cold temps/freezing rain.

I can't stress enough about taking any car you're seriously considering for a real test drive of at least an hour at different speeds, road surfaces, traffic conditions. Among other cars, I test drove a mazda6 this weekend for my folks. I told the sales person up front that we're test driving many different midsize vehicles and trying to narrow the list down. Just before leaving, the sales manager comes up and says that if need be, we can take the car for a day to help solidify the decision.

Rear seat in the coupes are fine if you're a 5 year old, or for extra storage space

You're right i need to actually test drive the car and take it from there. Sucks about the rear seats tho that might be a deal breaker since i take my siblings to and from school everyday =/
