An Interesting Observation
Hey all,
Most of you probably have no idea who I am. I bought a g37x sedan almost a year ago and have noticed something interesting. I used to have a Jeep Wrangler and a 97 eclipse gs-t and feel when I had both of these cars there was a comroderty that is lacking in a lot of Infiniti owners. When I pull up next to a g that has had some work to it the first thing I notice is no eye contact is made and instead it becomes "who's g is faster?" With my wrangler and eclipse often people would wave hello and even get into conversation at a light or in a parkinglot. Someone else on this forum asked if all g37 coupe owners are like this, but I think it may be an overall g thing.
Wouldn't be cool if it wasn't like this? Maybe it's just me and my experiences in Westchester, NY (a lot of people here are not always pleasant, including myself
), but I think it may be a larger thing. I don't need to be best friends with every g owner, but I would like to feel that when I see a g I don't need to worry about this person riding my butt and trying to race me EVERY time... Anyways, I am curious to see if what others think about this.

you can't really change people and their egos...it's like saying i walked past an asian guy who was rude to me, so they all are...it's just you're going to get some that are corny and some that are nice. thats how America is lol
With any given car, there are people who own it who are not necessarily enthusiasts. Those are the people who could care less if you pull up next to them in the same car (modded or not). Of course there are also those enthusiasts who, instead of demonstrating the camaraderie for which you yearn, approach a face-to-face situation like that with a competitive rivalry where they take offense to someone sharing a passion and view that person as a threat. Really, it's pretty sad...
However, I feel confident suggesting that if, on the road, you crossed paths with the majority of members on this forum, you would likely get a thumbs-up, a nod of the head, a flash of the high beams, or some sort of acknowledgment.
No?

I definitely miss that from the days of my DSM's, motorcycles and the MS6. But the reason why many G owners don't seem to care is because well they don't. This is an entry level luxury car, most people who own one never had a luxury car before so they have this ego going on. When I had the DSM's and the MS6 everyone else that owned one knew that only enthusiasts would go with such cars. And motorcycles are on a completely different level. Motorcyclists will wave at each other no matter what they're riding. I remember having a problem with my stator and my bike died out on the side of the freeway, every single person that rode by stopped to see if I needed any help, it was amazing.
So don't worry about it, sad to say but most Infiniti drivers are not exactly enthusiasts, they buy the car because it looks nice, it has nice features and they read in motortrend that it does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.

That's a great thought! I never thought that maybe it has to do that really only enthusiasts bought gs-t's or gsx's and there was also that mutual respect for one another because when you were a DSM owner you knew that those cars broke more often than they worked so keeping one working took skill. However, you can find a family in an Infiniti or just the common Joe who bought it for its looks and best in class power.
With all this being said I LOVE my g and would never trade it for a DSM again

I'm an enthusiast. I don't smile or wave or wink or dance when I see another G owner unless I know them. Why would I? Just because we drive the same car doesn't make us friends. I live in the city where people are best served to generally mind their own business. I don't want the dude next to me to think I'm flirting with him. Or trying to goad him into racing to the next light. Or provoking him in some way so as to get shot at or at least flipped off. Maybe I'm too busy listening to my music or picking my nose to give another insecure driver the attention they crave. Please don't take it personal that I'm too preoccupied driving my car to acknowledge you.
What is with these people showing up on the forum lately? This is the second recent thread by a Noob wanting to know why G drivers aren't all friendly with each other on the road because they used to drive model X and they all wink and smile and toot the horn at one another. It has nothing to do with our cars. Some of us just don't get overly friendly with strangers on the road just because they drive a car like ours. Some of us will. It's really not a big deal folks.
Please don't anyone else start another of these threads.

Just an alternative opinion to the "G drivers are douchebags because they don't wave to one another" threads. I didn't mean to rant when I posted it but it seems that way a little bit when re-reading it.
Here's a smiley face to make it better. And a wave for my fellow G drivers.

I'll pull up to another vert owner if they have the top down because chances are they will see me and its so rare.
Otherwise what BB said. Listening to my tunes. etc.
No one has yet to answer what the rules of engagement are for being friendly on the road.. or at least at traffic stops/gas stations. I'm sure if I'm out of my car at a gas station I can certainly say whats up to another G owner, but at a traffic stop it's more unlikely. There's a 2 minute 30 second traffic light change and I'm looking to punch it when the light changes LOL.

Pumping gas or an encounter in a parking lot is an entirely different situation. It more personal and you can say hello or compliment a person's mods without seeming like a weirdo. I've had many compliments on my car or wheels or detailing (when it's actually clean) and it's fine. I have no problem saying "nice car" or "nice wheels" or whatever when I can actually look at a person in the eye and interact with them. You can have a conversation.

Personally, I always wave to other G's (most of the time they are driving head on to me going the opposite direction) so there isn't any awkward time to kill. I've never actually been at a light next to another Infiniti, and I've never been at a gas station with another Infiniti. If I was, I'm sure I would give them a head nod or a wave or whatever...of course then I'd beat them off the line
