What is the proper shifting method?
Aside from reading the manual, what is the proper shifting method for fast acceleration on our cars? Manual trans of course. And what is proper shifting for regular acceleration?
For regular acceleration the clutch has to be FULLY pressed according to the manual, and released smooth and slow. I've also heard you only have to press the clutch in just a bit, just enough to change gears. When I do this though, i hear a gear sound, similar to a chain, whatever it is it doesn't sound good. And this is what the manual says you can hear when the clutch is not FULLY pressed, which may cause transmission damage. Which leads me to the above question. Thank you to all that provide me with info.

I would suggest finding someone that knows how to drive manual and have them show you.. it's alot easier then having someone try and explain it to you.
That said, let's start at the beginning

After that here's what powershifting looks like. Notice how the difference is you wind the car up near readline and the speed at which you coordinate the cluch and shifting.

Do you know if the clutch is being pressed FULLY down when powershifting? Anyone?
Thanks for your reply RedG37SNC

Yes, key is you need to go down far enough to disengage the transmission from the flywheel. Doing this fast and trying to feel just the right amount is very difficult.. better to go all the way.
You are going to get a million different answers to your question. NO, you don't need to fully depress the clutch when shifting quickly or normally. Some people do not depress the clutch at when shifting through the gears except for starting off in 1st. You will get the hang of driving a manual transmission only by practice and perhaps by having someone experienced show you, it's very difficult to describe a shifting technique without showing you. Give yourself some seat time and you'll get the hang of it. If you grind a gear occasionally or stall it, don't worry about it these transmissions aren't fragile.

I have a AT G37... had enough fun with manual on previous cars
I save manual for sports cars, and automatic for luxury cars. Luxury sport, I prefer both options.
ive had the car since last september,
now when ever i up shift or downshift im already used to where the point on the clutch after the engagement point and u can shift, so i dont press the clutch all the way down. u just gotta drive the car more and feel where that point is.

Typically I like to start in 1st then shift to 2nd once I get going a little faster I will put it in 3rd followed by 4th. Once I get up to around 7,000 rpms in 4th I will put it in 5th. If I am feeling extra crazy I will drop that bad boy in 6th after that.
