Noob intro but really wants solid information
Hello ev1,
I just joined the site. I am also on the NAGTROC site and I recognize some the members here.
I was all set to get a GTR but the minutia that you have to go through turned me off that idea for the time being. I traded in my 05 G35, sold my Lotus (well it was sold last year) and I bought a G37S Journey Blue Slate/Graphite, premium package, sport package (of course hence the S), NAV and lighted kick plates. I love the car so far but since I saved a bunch of money not buying a GTR my intentions are to bump the power, toughen up the sound, and some light visual mods. I’ll buy a liter-bike for my “speed jones” so I don’t need turbos or forced induction.
It’s hard to separate the real parts from the snake oil salesman on the web. I have been reading the posts in the mod section to try and figure out what has been successful and to tell you the truth, I can’t make heads or tails out of what has worked and what’s failed.
I saw that some individuals took the time to test their mods and share their findings but some were good and some were bad on the same part. It seems that it is important to reset the ECU for any mods to have affect so I wonder if that may be why the some mods failed or, like the COBB intake test, lost power.
And now for the Noob questions
Is there a section on the forum where I can find useable data to make my choices on mods? i.e. “I have this and this is what I found” or “don’t get that it’s a pain to deal with”
Or does anybody have direct experience with the Stillen Intake and the Greddy exhaust. Intake and exhaust are first on the list.
Does the reflashing the ECU cause any warranty problems or dealer issues and is it worth the $$$ to do it?
These are some of the things I would like some experienced individuals to address.

As for exhaust it comes down to how much you want to spend, and what's your goal. You want performance? Get cat-back, you want sound but no performance get axle-back.
Stillen Intakes, the word is that they lose power, however, I believe Bboysteele mentioned there hasn't been a solid third party dyno on it, not sure, I'll let the sharks eat this one up.
As for the top 2 intakes out right now. Your choices are Injen CAI (Cold Air Intake) or JWT SRI (Short Ram Intake), I'll also leave that topic to the fanboys lol. Good luck!
Oh a reflash shouldn't be a problem with the dealer....

Welcome ghotnit. As you can probably tell from reading the posts here, there's little conclusive information as to what really adds power and what doesn't. I blame this mostly on the fact that the engines whe have are very, very good at making all the power it has the potential to make right from the factory. Yes, there will always be some small tweaks you can make to get a little bit more, but they are going to be small gains.
Opinions are all over the board on intakes and exhausts as to what makes more power. You'll have to sift through the opinions and different dynos under different conditions and determine which you trust. If you determine you'd like to try a certain product, see who has it and get their opinions on how well it's working fro them and their thoughts and impressions. All I kow for certain is which grounding wires are best.
Good luck in your quest for speed and welcome to our forum.

As for exhausts, I can spend but don’t really want to pay just for a name and polished tubes under the car. I noticed the Greddys were $900 and there are others above $3,000. I don’t think I could find $2,000 difference between Altered Atmosphere and Greddy.
^^You can buy every top end bolt on POS they make for this car and you still wont be above 320 to the wheels.
If you were looking at the GTR and were preparred to pay $100K, then a TT is a drop in that bucket. Then you will be close to the almighty GTR.

if you have that kinda money to spend all at once, there is no other way to go than a good Twin Turbo setup and tune.
Give it some time, more companies will be releasing kits. Maybe work on the Aesthetics for now.
Def get some High Flow Cats, either from Berk or Fast Intentions. Then a Cat-back exhaust, not sure which makes most power as of now but if i had the money i would be buying the Fast Intentions carbon fiber cat back right now.
Get some wheels too if you'd like to change that up, either for weight saving, style or both. Check wheels and tires section and post there.
Intakes are a sore topic here, and i'll leave it at what StillBallin said above me.
GOoD LUCK, CONGRATS, and keep us posted... oh yea and post pics as u mod!

You can answer a question for me though. What are the grounding wires for? Aren't the electronics systems stable enough that they are superfluous?
I just got my grounding wires in the mail today! I'm so pissed cuz i forgot my tools at my parents house last time i was there. Gonna go knocking around for a 10 mm.
I'll let you what i think of em... so far ppl that i trust on here are giving good reviews for on a 5AT like ours. Smoother shifts.

welcome and congrats on the car!
i have an injen cai... although many people don't like it because it was dyno'ed and proved to be only a small gain, i really love the sound, especially when you take it past 4 k rpms, it sounds great, as for gains, i feel a difference as well...
for exhaust, borla is said to have the most gains, but i think someone is dyno'ing their magnaflow soon, and the magnaflow is really cheap, so if it has good gains, then it'd be a steal!

I like the Injens and have heard good things about the sound they give but is maintenance going to be a project? I read that the kit had issues on the passenger side like removing horns and washer bottles and hitting power-steering pumps. All sorts of nightmares.
Nah you don't have to remove any horns or even relocate it... Just a quick bend and it's out of the way... And i dont have any clearance issues on these... Not hitting anything they're not supposed to...
if you only looking for the sound and not care about the performance or little of it. i would just go with magnaflow catback, jwt intake, berk tps, and stillen headers. thats about 1.4-1.5k right there and you will have something that sound breastly.
how was the lotus? im planning on buying one after i sell this car in like 3-4 years.
