Next Gen Cars: Supra, G37, etc....
Its an early time for real answers to tough questions but I have a few speculatoins to throw in. I am thinking the Supra will be made more "sporty" than the G will due to its history. At the same time, I doubt Infiniti will try to make the G more sporty beyond the larger motor. That being said, I wonder if the Supra would have all the plush options like the heated seats, bluetooth, memory seats, etc... or if it will be geared more towards the avid track goer.
It could be like the Z and have various models available, but who knows at this point. I really like the way both cars seem in concept right now though the G37 seems closer to production. This is the first time in a long time that I would really have to likely battle it out over two cars before chosing what I would want (that being said in a perfect world where the cars came out at the same time).
To date, I have always known which car I wanted next and I went for it when I had the means. Between these two cars, it may truly come down to extensive research, test drives, and reviews.
Dont get me wrong though!
I do love competition like this. I love options.

There's a slew of options coming up. I know people are going to give me **** for saying this, but I like the way the Cayman looks. I know it's basically a hardtop boxster, but the hardtop lines fit the car much better...but I'd have to hold out until they outfit that with at least a turbo and give it some proper power.
If they ever outfit it with a turbo.
The e92 is questionable whether or not it'll meet the hype and fill the shoes that the e46 has left behind. It's going to be a fast little whip, but we'll see when it finally is unveiled.
The next gen g35(37) is hot, but is it going to forgo its sportier roots in exchange for a more luxury market? It looks hot of course, but I'm worried that the power might be a little too late? Especially with a charge towards luxury, I could see that car getting even heavier than it already is.
The Supra...no one even has an idea of what it looks like either. This is going to be quite a contender, and it too has a lot of hype surrounding it...
I think I share John's sentiments...the next few years should definitely prove to be interesting.

The Cayman S has some pretty good stats. They have an article about it in Car and Driver (I think). They're comparing the 911, C6, Cayman S and the new Aston Martin.
I'm guessing the Cayman S will be towards the bottom of the list, but at least it made the intial cut.
I'll post some info after I finish the article.

For whatever it is worth, Cayman S recently beat out the Exige in a recent comparo. As nice as it will likely be, I still don't think I can afford the cost of ownership. A colleague of mine is selling his 996 because his dealer and Porsche specialty shop experiences make some of our unfortunate Inifiniti dealer experiences look trivial.
Must be at a poor dealer. I know a few porche owners that look like their going to be sticking with them for life.
My main issue is cost. For $69k I can buy a G w/mods that could walk all over a Cayman at the track or strip. And if you want to stay stock the Z06 can spank it for a few grand less.

i like the cayman a lot, it logged faster laptime than its big brother 911 at the nurburgring test track. the mid engine layout is just superior than the 911, however it dosnt have LSD thats pretty lame considering how much it cost.
The only reason I speak of the G and the Supra is because I see them being in similar price ranges. The Cayman is in there too but I See it as somewhat weak compared to these guys, and the Cayman S puts it out of that pricerange. I guess I could throw the Exige in there but its a totally different car.

I was talking to a Porsche dealer and he told me that the Cayman is targeted towards those who are buying used Porsches, but can't quite afford the new ones yet.

The supra does look pretty hot though from the magazine...2 versions are coming out though with 2 totally different engines...a V8 and a V6 is i'm not mistaken. The v6 will be in the convertible version, and the v8 on the hardtop
The G37 hopefully will have a good 45hp, "hopefully"!
