Gas Tank Cover MALFUNCTION...

This morning I was on "E" needed gas really bad so I stopped at the nearest gas station... SUNOCO.. and the cover wouldn't open. It seems the lock mechanism isn't working? I need to take it in to IOC and get it looked at. This is ridiculous!!

hmm.
I'm guessing you tried turning the car on and back off... Maybe the system got out of wack.
The cover should lock with the doors.
Let us know what you find out.

Common problem, do a search. Its the actuator locking mechanism. I had a similar problem, then the next time the flap opened the plastic actuator actually broke off. It was replaced under warrenty no questions asked.

lek chill out, calm down, it aint the end of the world Mr. Drama Queen.

same thing happens to me, the little spring device is broken on mine. you will need to open it by hand manually, make sure you unlock your doors w/ the key FOB (hit it like 2-3x for good measure) then slide your finger in the gap and pull it open. If you cant get ur finger in there, use like a credit card or somethign that wont scratch ur paint.

I have to take mine in as well to get the spring replaced...

Sometimes there is a fuel door relay that can fail. Unless that relay is replaced, you can't open it. Unless there is a manual release cable, but I am not sure if there is.

You can access the locking mechanism from the trunk. If you take off the passenger side panel in the trunk, you can see a white plastic box with a lock piece sticking out. I believe if you pull on the lock (looks like a white pen cap) towards the rear of the car, that should open the gas door.

Alright I got the gas door to open but now it doens't lock. And I did this before seeing the post about the locking mechanism in the trunk. So I'm thinking it's broken now.

I called IOC and spoke to VINCE. He told me to just stop by, I asked if I needed an appointment but he said just stop by maybe it's the KEYFOB or whatever. HMMM... I'll be really pissed if they me to come back because they need to order a part. We'll see.

hahah seriously, my car has enough dings and scratches on it, i would just rip the thing off with my key or something.

or it'd probably end up with me with both feet wedged up against the car's side on either side of the gas hatch, pulling with both hands and then it suddenly releases and i accidentally fling it across the station lot like a frisbee as I fall on my butt.

Stupid question. Did you unlock all of the doors?
