pussies!! i drove all last year on my michelin pilots...yes it is tough and hard to manuever...but hey ive driven RWD cars all my life...suck it up!! besides it only snowed on the weekdays like 2-3 days last year... that wont justify $800 for tires for me when I can get an exhaust for that much!!

i also drove sat. nite w/ those flurries and freezing rain AND today just got back from the gym!! now if the snows sitting on the ground...i'll prob just not drive

^^ HA! who's the ***** now?!?!?!!?

anyways its more like a pain in the a$$ if you happen to go somewhere.. you come out... it's 3 inches of snow on the ground... a normal car... would be able to make it home... in one piece. pilot sports on a G you'll probably die on the way.... or not even move more than 2 feet. I dont know about everyone else... but since this is my only car... i will be getting snows. for my own piece of mine.... riding the metro sucks!

hey just be glad we have metro here and you dont have to rely on rickshaws like back home!!

just do like i do when it snows, pick up 2 spanish dudes or 2 of john's peeps at your local neighborhood 7-11 and look for bums standing outside (usually on elden street/alabama st in herndon and there's plenty in falls church too) let em ride in the back seat. whenever u get stuck, simply have em get out and push you. Not only does it weigh down the rear having ppl there, but its also good for that extra deeep snow having 2 helping hands push while u drive!!

Oh well..another false alarm on the weatherman's part..big snowfall my butt! The parking lot was nice and empty when I got to work this morning so I pulled a lovely drift into my parking spot..

all season v.s. snow tires

over here, the mountains folks are saying why waste your money on snow tires. no tire is going to help your grip on ice and after skiing in my G last year, i decided to get some all season tires. I'll see how they turn out.

urban_G, snow tires will indeed make a difference even on ice. Maybe not as much as on snow and crud, but the different compounds used in snow (studless type, the studded types are no brainers) tires vs all seasons will give you at least a handful more traction. Is it enough to drive the G? Perhaps not on a flat sheet of ice, but how often do you run into that? No car, AWD, FWD, or RWD is going to do well on that without nice studded tired. But the G with good snows will be driveable in just about any weather that mother nature can dish out in the northeast.

I cant justify snow tires here in this area. We get like 2 inches and everyone freaks out here. Now if we lived in New York or Canada I'd have on snows probably but around here? They do such a good job of cleaning the roads already, especially my neighborhood that you're fine without snows I think.

Bro, your logic doesn't make sense. What exactly were you driving on last season? Maybe you need to get snow tires like the Blizzak WS-50 and not performance snow tires (Blizzak LM-22 or Dunlop M3). The tread design on the WS-50 are extremely aggressive and I can't imagine getting stuck in anything less than 6" with those tires.

I hope you're right about your predictions and we'll have a mild winter but from the looks of the hurricane season and this early snow, it won't be mild this year. With all the money you guys are throwing down on happy hour weekly, I don't understand why $1k on snow wheels/tires is that much unless you have another vehicle for the winter? You can pick up a set of tires alone for $600-700 and throw it on a used set of 17" G35/350Z/generic rims. A guy at work has a Z and picked up a use set of rims for $250 shipped. His total cost for 17" snow wheels/tires was ~$850 installed.

I dont think teh aspect of money is even an issue. If it was going to benefit me I'd spend even $3k on the setup. Thats not the point. Basically I dont think its necessary. Whether you want to spend that much is up to you but I just cant justify it. This is your first winter with the G while this is my 2nd. Besides my job is great and I work from home anytime I want (although this isnt an excuse to not drive). I know what I experienced the last and I was fine. Good luck.
