Question Tire Low Pressure Alarm

Last night my wife left her Office in her 05 CPE 6MT over on Shady Grove Road in Rockville and as she crossed that street the Tire Low Pressure Light and quite loud warning sound went off. (She looked down, she said, and said, "Holy s***! I didn't do anything!" LOL

In any event, she pulled over and her left front tire did indeed look low to her. It had just started to rain (of course) and se called Infiniti’s Road Service. They told her it would be 1 hr and 25 min! Afte5r the 1:25 she called again and they told her 40 more minutes! Truck arrived about 1:45 after the initial call.

Custom Towing arrived and did a fine job - the tech was professional, polite, and did the job. I had forgotten that the Infiniti spare, at least for the 05 CPE, is one of those donut temporary spares.

Here's the issue. I added air to the original "flat" tire - 35psi - last night. It's sitting in my garage now and it's still at 35psi. I'm beginning to wonder if it had simply been low and the sensor finally was triggered??? Also, I don't know how the sensor system works - will read the 350Z Shop Manual I have to hopefully find out. Also, don't know what it takes to reset the alarm if I re-install the tire. I believe it requires simply driving a bit with all tires properly inflated.

that is correct, simply drive with it after reinflating and it goes away!! had the same problem w/ my coupe after about 2 months. the light would come on and that annoying beeeeep on cold mornings, but after the tires warmed up the light would go off. initially i thought it was the temperature because i know affects pressure. turns out i actually had a nail in the tire that would slowly cause my tire to lose air!! rosenthal patched it and has been off ever since. would still come on after long drives, but thats b/c i had aftermarket wheels w/ no TPS!! now im back on stock 18s!!

Yeah, while I was skeptical about the TPS actually working I really do think they work. Just a few weeks ago my alarm went off and two of my tires really were low. Just stopped off at the gas station and filled them up to spec and haven't seen the light since.

If the light goes off I would not be alarmed at all. You can just as easily take it to a station or just drive on it and it may go away - temperatures can play with pressures. Its more a "caution" than a "holy **** pull over immediately and fix it" kinda thing if that makes sense.

I actually had the same problem last week. I went to the Chantilly dealer and they had reset the tire pressure alarm..I think it would normally go off if it falls below 28 psi? and they just increased it. They said something about the weather and when it gets cold outside we lose pressure or something along those lines. Anyways, my light doesn't go off anymore.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just got off with the Service Writer at JBA. She told me that with the advent of colder weather, the alarms start to sound. She suggested that I fill the tires to 36psi all around as opposed to the recommended 35psi as, of course, the pressure will lower as the temperature drops.

I also went to the other three tires and measured their pressure - they are all at 24psi. The car is just over three months old and has 1700 miles on it. My bad for not checking the tire pressure for her. I have a compressor and a jack so I'll set them all to 36 psi and re-install the original tire.

Of course, the Service Writer made sure that I had closely examined the suspected flat.... I hadn't measured the pressure in the other wheels when I talked to her so I was not forced to fess up to my failure(s.)

Thanks to all for the come backs.

Not to hijack the thread as I think Salti has gotten his answer but I just know those tire pressure gauges at the station aren't accurate. There any good automatic ones I can maybe buy at the store for like $10 which are more accurate? If you can, a link would be cool.

Thanks.

Excellent point! I have an air compressor as well as a portable air bottle... once a year or so I make sure that my old cheapo tire pressure guage tracks with the gauges on the Compressor and the portable bottle.

I had the same problem with my TPS. It kept going off, then I found out that I had a nail in the tire. I had my tire replaced through a warranty that I bought with the car... After that, the TPS has yet to come back.
