NGC helps the victims of Hurricane...
Alright people...we're very fortunate to not have to go through what the victims of this hurricane had to endure. So let's get together and do something to help the people who are suffering. Let's toss around some ideas and come up with an agreement by let's say next Monday?
What do we want to do as a group?
1.) Put in $50 each? <--- yeah thats one tank of gas...don't bull$hit with me and say you don't have that...
2.) Put in money and buy supplies as a group and donate it?
3.) Have some sort of fundraiser? Like a car wash maybe?
Instead of sitting up here all day talking trash saying how much money we make....what mods we got...let's do something to help out.
I'm sure there are peeps that will step up...

Lek, great idea. While I'm not sure if we need to formally do anything as a group or as a club, I think it's an awesome initiative, as it would harness some of our time, energy and resources that might otherwise be squandered towards a very real and tangible need. I don't know about the rest of you, but while the scenes of devastation and suffering were really tragic, what really got to me was the looting. Scumbags right? Well, it def. made me wonder just how much better I am for not actively doing anything to relieve the region's pain and anguish, and being wrapped up in what audio system I should get. Alright, lest I be accused of pontificating, I'll let others weigh in.

the looting was messed up and we have it good right now so lets give
I too agree that we shouldnt necessarily "formally" have to do this as a club if we want to help out. Its good that you do bring it up though Lek.
I did donate to the Red Cross yesterday on their website but it was VERY slow. I eventually got through. Even donating blood would probably be a help if anyone can do that and just takes time from you. I know every little bit helps and anything we can do will be a plus.

GUH Response to Hurricane Katrina - your help needed
We have been advised that over 400 elderly, retired military personnel (both male and female) are being relocated to the D.C. Armed Forces Retirement Home. They are arriving from the Gulfport area, where their facility was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. They are coming with minimal personal care items, and will probably not have family members here to assist them.
The GUH Magnet Champions spoke with a representative of the D.C. facility and the folks will need many things that they will not have been able to bring with them -- and they will be here for the next several months. Over Thursday (9/1) and Friday (9/2), we hope to collect and deliver as much as we can in the way of personal hygiene items for these displaced elderly people. The drop off of the donated items will be made to the D.C. Armed Forces Retirement Home on Friday afternoon. This is an immediate and concrete way for us to help people locally who are victims of the hurricane.
Following is a list of items that are needed. Please bring your donations to the Nursing Recruitment Office on the 1st floor of the Main Building, between 8am and 5pm on Thursday and Friday.
- tooth paste/tooth brushes/mouthwash
- razors/shave cream/aftershave
- combs/brushes
- soap
- shampoo
- body lotion/powder
- q-tips/nail clippers/nail files
- lip balm
- deodorant
and anything else that you think might be helpful. Mints/hard candies/playing cards/books/magazines could be nice additions.
If you have any questions, please direct them to Bethany Marcello in Nurse Recruitment, at 202-444-3056.
Thank you.

This email was sent to everyone on the email system for GUH. If everyone feels that we shouldn't do anything as a group then I'll do it on my own. I know that my family is actually putting money together and going to go buy stuff to help...right now my grandmother ($200), my mother her whole paycheck ($700), me probably ($200), we'll probably donate it as a family. Thanks to everyone who tried to help in the effort. It's not about oh we are doing this to get credit for it or what not...I just can't stand to see other people suffer like that from natural disasters. Watching the many shows last night I can't just sit still and watch. We're definitely more fortunate than the victims. And I'll do what I can to help them.

I would actually donate my time...I think they are asking for minimum of 3 weeks but I can't take off that long on such short notice...maybe when they start rebuilding the city I'll go down there and help.
Even though I share a similar situation w/ byrnie having to pay for car repairs (insurance deductibles, tickets I just cant seem to avoid lately, rental cars) I think I can still donate $50....hopefully karma will help me out down the line)
