NGC Opinion: Maintenance Nissan vs. Infiniti

Ok unlike some of you guys (and gals) that seem to have thousands of bucks to put into your car I, on the other hand, am quite thrifty when it comes to routine vehicle maintenance. With all of my highway driving my '04 Coupe is already due for its 30K service/maintenance/inspection.

I have quotes (parts and labor) from local area Infiniti and 1 Nissan dealerships

Jim Coleman - 630.00

JBA - 550.78

Infiniti in Chantilly - 695.00

Hagerstown Nissan - 500.00

So what do you think, NGC, is it worth it, does it even matter to have this or any service/maintenance performed? Should I just take it to Jiffy Lube?

Thanks

i personally wouldnt waste time, these things are all money making opportunities for dealerships. ask yourself how much is an oil change worth?? well since i've done them myself I can tell you. (rounded up for good measure)

1. Oil Filter - no more than $5
2. Mobil 1 - 5W-30 Synthetic - $30 for 6 quarts (only use 5)
3. 15-30 minutes of your time - $(depends on you)
4. Recycling/wasted oil - $5 at your local gas station
Total - $40 - and thats using Mobil 1 oil....and when you do it yourself you know its done right!

Thats just the oil change I have broken down for you....you can always get parts cheaper than the dealer, labor is where the dealer makes its money...

Check your owner's manual to see what is included in the 30k mile service. Some things you may be able to accomplish yourself. Have a dealer do the rest. Have you talked to Passport Infiniti in Alexandria, VA or the new Sheehy Infiniti in Annapolis, MD? Sheehy may even offer more of a discount since they recently opened...

But whatever you do, stay far away from Jiffy Pop and the like!!!

$5 for a filter? Please tell me you're not using that Fram crap. I use Purolator Micronic or Mobil (108). Both of these sell for around 8 or 9 bux at Advance and AutoZone. As for oil disposal, just dump it down the storm drain. I'm kidding! Advance has free recycling. Now, THEY might dump it in the drain...

And please dont think for a minute that flushing your fluids or replacing used window washer fluid/coolant costs anywhere near $100....

Half the time they dont even flush the fluids, simply 'top off' so to speak...and the other maintenance they perform is to replace your breather element (air filter), and your in cabin filter which I heard is no more than $30-$40 for parts...and real simple to change. Only thing which one could not do is swapping tires, since our tire sizes are different front/back and I think our tires can only sit in one direction this would involve actually removing tires from the rims and remounting them on the opposite sides.

I use the standard Nissan Oil filter, not fram not purolator or any other brand. I had a thread about his some time ago, 'performance' oil filter is a waste of money IMO, use good oil, no need for a 'performance' oil filter. I change mine every 2500 anyways and im on synthetic....

Did you try Rosenthal Infiniti? InfinitiCoupeG35 works there and may be able to hook you up if you are a memeber of the nGc. I think he said something like 10% off service charges and free oil change?

From everything that I have read and heard, NO, it will not void your warranty. Thats all to scare you. These are "suggested" maintenance.

C-Lawd, you'd be surprised how quick synt. blend oil looses its weight/thickness...I do it to be safe since I just switched over. Once I hit about 25k, i'll probably change it to every 5k. Synth. blend oil is only $10 more than regular...why mess with something so important!?!
