Lek, I live in Montgomery County where I believe its the highest tax in the area. Go down to around Cabin John Park where we meet up and gas is over $3 for premium now. Doesn't matter where you are but anyplace around here is expensive compared to other parts of the country.

The Tax Rate is also a function of the specific County you live in - I suspect that you could find examples to both support and disprove your statement.

^^ I agree with Saltidawg... you can't compare VA as a whole to MD as a whole. There are certain areas in VA are cost more to live in. For instance Fairfax County. Also to Pratik... gas in Arlington County is more expensive than Fairfax County but Fairfax is the more expensive area.

i'm not attributing gas to property taxes by any means. A smart gas station will be higher priced off a major highway.

Nevertheless, this is all a relative situation to a point. Cost of living is higher here but so are our salaries.

This is true also. But if you picked up the phone and called a realtor they will tell you that VA's taxes. Doesn't matter what county you live in VA or MD. But people who live in MD always say they would never live in VA and the MD folks say they would never live in VA.

The grass is always greener on the otherside no matter what.

ops! Fixed the typo!

Actually whats odd if PG cty has alot higher property tax than Mont co. Which I find extremely odd as PG is supposed to be the "poor" cty in Maryland. I find this upsetting as I live in PG. and... what really sucks is my house just got reassesed by the county so now my tax rate is set for like 150k more than what I was paying before.

Heres a snapshot of the taxrates of a couple of the MD counties that were mentioned:

2005-2006 County Tax Rates
Below is a list of counties in Maryland, and their property tax rates in effect on July 1, 2005.
All rates are shown per $100 of assessment.
