Portable Nav Systems

Anyone here have or have used a portable navigation system in their cars? I am seriously taking a look at the Garmin system. I dont want to spend too much by getting an indash system like the ECLIPSE AVN. Also when I use other cars for long trips (rentals for example) I would like to be able to bring the system along for the trip. If anyone has pics and how they wired them that would be great. Thanks!

When did you order it? How much? How do you plan on wiring it to the cigarette lighter?

Ordered it a while ago online, but they aren't shipping out until June. As much as I'd like a clean hardwire install, I won't cuz I also got it so I can transport it from car to car.

Well its hooked up to a carputer (I am using a laptop that sits under the seat) I personally love it but I'll admit - if you're a complete newb to computers I wouldnt recommend that route. You can see my setup however by clicking on the link in the bottom of my sig. As far as cost, I believe the whole thing ran me around $750-$800 but if you were to build everything from scratch I'd leave a budget of around $1200 to do MP3's, DVD, GPS, NAV, even a reverse camera if you'd like.
