I hear ya puria, I'm exhausted and I think I'm supposed to go out to happy hour with some coworkers. I was in Penderbrook (fairfax) 'til at least 11 last night playing Hold 'Em.

Damn, I was playing hold em til 1am last nite...I went up $50...but 3 'all ins' later....I was down $30. I hate when you lose when you really have good cards. I had a straight A, K, Q, J, 10...other guy who went all in had a full house....

Had a flush (spades) 3, 8, J, 6 K....same guy had the A of spades.....i was pissed!!

If i lose I want to lose w/ a ****ty hand...not a good hand! so here we are 6 hrs later..

Thats the problem when you play with some amateurs. They always pray to the River Gods and will call you with a flush draw possability. They'll live and die by playing that way but even if you have great cards that last card will bite you in the ***.

Lately I've been trying to play a little more. Trying to get advice from my brother. He's won a few tournaments in Vegas so he's a lot better than me.

ya..i had a flush after the 4th card (forgot what its called), but once the river card came...he was in heaven, i had 2 spades in my hand...he had one...the river card made a total of 4 spades w/ his A of spades....he was dancing....literally....moonwalking, cabbage patch, running man......

talk about luck on his part...and lack thereof on mine...

4th is called 4th Street or the Turn card. First 3 is the flop and last one is the river.

No, he's actually a doctor and is about to go to law school. I know he's crazy, but he's a real thinker/strategist and thats what Poker is all about to a point.

Also re-reading this I'm kinda confused on the scenario. You need 5 spades for the flush. If you had 2 in your hand, 3 came up on the board? Or are you saying you both had a flush but he had a higher kicker with the Ace?

Pratik,

I had a flush off the flop hence why i raised high after the fact. This guy had pocket Aces ( A diamonds and A spades) and after I raised a good amount he went all in... I matched him as I figured id take my chances w/ my flush...so we both went all in and turned our cards over. I had K and 8 of spades in my hand. So the 4th card was like a 4 of hearts (didnt help anyone) and the river card was another spade which then gave him the flush except he had the A of spades (higher flush).

Damn I get it. That sucks man - especially with your King. I know you said you'd rather lose with ****ty cards but not me.

As long as you play smart and play your game, if the guy just has better cards and beats you then so be it. I feel a lot better knowing I played it the way its supposed to be played instead of making a dumb mistake. Either way you played it the way I would have (Calling an all-in after having a flush after seeing just the flop)
