Theft in MD/VA/DC Area

Well we all know that theft is huge problem in our areas. What do you guys find as the most effective ways to deter (sp) theft? Or even prevent it. For instance there is a thread about where did you get your tints done. One reason I haven't tinted my car is because a lot of the thefts target cars with tinted windows thinking that there is some type of aftermarket system in it or other goodies. For these reasons I always have apprehension about modding my car. It's not that it can't be replaced but it's just a hassle to deal with. Pretty much if they want the car they are gonna take it. What alarm system should I get and where should I get it installed. My friend had his done at tweeter. And it's the paging one. So I'm thinking about doing the same. Any advice?

hey man. I have put careful consideration into the alarm system I am getting. My car arrives at my door in a week, and that same Thursday, I am going down to Richmond to get my alarm put in. I am getting the 2WSS-AS (alarm with remote start).

This has the paging system that you spoke of and unbelievable range. I am getting a deal for 650 on this.

If you want to come down when I do feel free.

You're driving down to Richmond to get your alarm installed? Nice let me ask my friend who went to VCU if he wants to go down then we can go around while your car is getting done. Maybe get some lunch or something. 600 sounds like a lot of money though. Is that with the install?

I don't think there is a monthy charge for LoJack since it's never used till your car actually gets stolen. The only 'bad' thing about LoJack is that (according to my insurance company) no discounts for having LoJack since it's a post theft device not an anti-theft device.

I have lojack installed, but I regret it. There is no monthly charge just a 1 time $500 installation fee. You have to have the battery changed after 3 years i think though. I do get a very small discount from my insurance company, but its not worth it.

Really since the cars have an electronic key, the easiest way for a thief to steal it would be to tow it and if a thief that sophisticated wants to steal your car, there is very little you can do to stop him. Lojack can be jammed as well as found and removed.

When it comes down to it, physical security is 90% common sense and 10% hardware. The stock system is good enough as to not make the g an easy target, the best thing you can do to not get your car broken into above that is don't leave anything with a high dollar value easily visible in your car, don't leave it unlocked, etc.

Try this out...

I think it's better than Lojack IMO. But I don't know if they serve your area.

Hey man, yeah we can all drive down that would be cool!

yeah, its 650 installed and thats for a manual, so if you have auto, it may be slightly cheaper. This is the best deal I could find around the area. I had to barter very hard just to reduce the price to 800 up here in Alexandria. Even in MD, it was 750.

Besides, the ride down to Richmond should be fun

I feel the same way. I would only get a Lojack if I had a car that is rare and can't be replaced. If someone steals the car, then they can keep it. Because I surely dont want it back I'd want to get a new one. Only if I could hire a security guard.....

I love the smell of new cars. I had mine smelling new for about 6 months. What color did you get?

So you're trying to go down that Thursday? Why not Saturday?

the meet we are having is on saturday

I had always planned to take 2 days off of work when the car came in, so I can see how this may cause a conflict of schedule on your behalf, but I just wanted to get the alarm on it ASAP !!
