The new home location does not have FIOS at the moment and may take another 6 mo to a year to get out there. In the meantime, to have the best HD experience, its coming down to *** vs satellite. Any suggestions?

I've never experience HD through satelite, but i'd would think landline is more reliable and get the best signal and probably cheaper. I think with Comcast, it was merely an extra $5 per HD box and you get all these extra HD channel. I think with satelite, you need the HD package which cost more.

I have Dish Network, it has been pretty good. Lost some channels switching from Time Warner, but overall I have been happy and customer service.

I have DISH. Occaisional loss of signal with storms, but much better customer service than cable and cheaper for me to have DVR tuner box with all available channels than cable. As an FYI - if you have HD, Direct TV has by far the largest # of channels available in HD, DISH 2nd and cable last.

I think I will go with the Satellite service. I am all about HD and am spoiled with FIOS in this home. I am going to miss it big time.

Try cable first. There's no contracts, so if you're not satisfied with it you can switch to dish... I work in the industry. I went from a cable company to a satalite company, I get paid alot more from the salelite company, but I still have cable. Why? the HD is way better.

I had Direct TV.....!

I had Direct TV for two weeks and the pic was terrible, fuzzy not clear at
all. I went back to cable and a week later Direct called me and said they
were sorry but they didn't install the HD receiver my system requires. WTF
to late should have installed the right receiver in the begining.....50" new
flat screen isn't going to need the HD receiver.......stupid installer!

I have Dish Network and it blows. Picture is terrible (I have downloaded compressed videos that look better), the guide listings are never correct, its slow, etc. Cable was much better. I think we are going to give Direct TV a shot though or go back to cable. It was Timewarner cable and the customer service sucked but picture was a whole lot better.

The new satellite services are definitely better than cable. At least for my area, cable tv is so bad, it looks like it's off a bad antenna. The new dishes available are actually much better than the old systems. You don't have to worry about cloudy days, storms, etc... ruining your signal anymore. What it comes down to is how it's wired and whether the dish is pointed in the correct direction with obstructions or not.

IMO, if you go with a dish, go with the service partnered with AT&T in that area. They will provide the better service.

What community did you move to? We've had DTV in the past and signal does get lost during storms and etc but other than that, it's pretty reliable. Comcast cable on the other hand kinda sucks. The On Demand feature is great but sometimes the feed gets choppy regardless of the weather. It's like watching a scratched DVD at times. Prices being the same, I'd get satellite service and have them mount the dish on the backside of your roof.

DirecTV HD is much better being that I have had both. They have more HD channels than cable. Their customer service is the best I have ever had.

Comcast called me and wanted to know if I wanted to switch back them and I said 'Why'. Their reply was because we are better than Satellite and you dont have to worry about the Dish.

My reply was 'but dont you guys use the dish as well, I pay my bills and see the dish there, so arent you doing the same thing. Your just receiving the digital signal at your building and then filtering it via analog to the residences and then claiming you have better service and quality. I am just doing the same thing, but just cutting out the middle man in the equation. I am getting a direct digital signal to my house w/o analog filtering and the picture quality is much better.

Lets just say: Comcast hasnt called back since.

And as for rain and T-storms...my picture quality has not gone out. We just had heavy rain all this week and no change. The original receivers did go out when it rained heavy but w/ the new HD receivers...I dont notice any picture/quality loss.
