ticket help please

hey guys,

so the other night i was driving home from baltimore and as i get onto 95south im just going about my business and i was getting onto 95 from the mlk exit and i was merging onto 95s. a couple mins later a cop pulls me over and asks me if i knew why he pulled me over. I tell him no and he says its cuz i made an unsafe lane change. i was soo confused as to how and where i made an unsafe lane change but apprently i cut sumone off to the left after i merged/ while merging. its a $90 ticket but i have a very VERY colorful record...do you guys think this is gonna get my license suspended again? or get me in jail? i know it sounds stupid but like i said, i have a very colorful record. also can anyone verify how many points i could get or if there is any points? i asked the cop but he was a complete newb. thanks guys

I can only answer from my limited knowledge and 6+ trips to traffic court. Since an unsafe lane change is a moving violation it probably entails some points. Of the tickets I've gotten, running a red light and speeding 15+ over the limit has been 2 points so I would think an unsafe lane change is only 1 point but this is a guess at best.

License suspension depends on how many points you already have...I think 8 is when you get to kiss it goodbye. Just how 'colorful' are we talking? If you're record is that bad and you're that worried get a lawyer. And as a preventative measure you can take an online Driver Improvement Course BEFORE you go to court. I've been told it shows the court that you're trying to change. Best of luck.

Call the court to see how many point associated with that violation. Maybe get a lawyer or take online classes if you haven't already done so for prior violation. Not to preach, but from the little details you provided (not knowing that you cut off somebody, colorful record, and prior suspension) implies to me that you should re-evaluate the way you drive. It'll save you future headache and/or jailtime. Goodluck
