BMers, gotta love 'em
"For profiling around town or routine freeway cruising, the V-10 maxes at a mere 400 horsepower. When the driver wantes more, he taps into a 100-hp stategic reserve by pushing console button that tells the ECU to open the throttles all the way. The button read "Power," and it's not kidding. Every car should have one." - Road Test: BMW M6, Car and Driver, July 2006

One caveat: BMW's are simply amazing cars. The M3, M5, and M6 are well worth the investment if you want to shell out the money. But for the same bottom dollar, a well modified G will out perform it any day.
Again, just my $.02

you can make ANY car FAST with the right (or unlimited) amount of money. so what that you can make a G with 1000hp? i can make a Neon with 1000hp and spank anything on the rd..but at the end of the day, its still a neon.
moding cars is one thing, but i think we should also marvel at the wonderful engineering that car companies like BMW or Porche etc.. are able to come up with. they dont just make one trick ponies. M3, M5, 911, Ferraris..they are not made to do one thing only when it comes to performance. they are awsome performance cars becasuse they are able to do everything well.
do i think BMW and porches are expensive? hell yeah.. but if i have the money, i wouldnt even think twice about them been overpriced or not. i would just buy it and enjoy it..enjoy a peace of world class engineering as well as automotive history. would you rather have a moded G or a Ferrari? you can easily make a G ALOT faster than a Ferrari with the right amount of $$, but what does that really prove? nothin...
im not dissing mods tho. i love moded cars and i think modification is a way of self expression as well as improving on things that we each feel needs improvement among our cars whether its speed, handling, looks or whatever.
just my .02

Again, BMW's are awesome cars, just over-priced in my opinion. For the money you spend on an M (or any other exotic for that matter...), I just think that they don't give you your money's worth. I'm not saying that BMWs, Ferraris, Lambos, etc. aren't good cars, just that the money spent on obtaining them is over-rated from a pure performance perspective. As far as the ego trip that you get along with the sticker price... it's worth every penny
.
.
Unless the money one uses to buy a car is truly "disposable income," I don't think a new car can ever really be "worth" it from a pure value perspective. There's always a car that costs less that does more at the expense of a slight tradeoff. Consequently, we all end up buying what we: want, can reasonably afford, and can justify. Life's too short to not enjoy what you drive.
