Drifting-vdc concerns

I have a 2010 g37s 6mt sedan. I signed up for a drifting event in January. I’ve been doing some research and can’t really find a solid answer. Do I need to bypass the yaw sensor? I understand that only turning vdc off and pulling the brake fuse may not be enough for the car to let me hold a slide. How true is this?

I figured out the location of the yaw sensor (in the center console near the cup holders) but I’m not sure which wire to tap. Some said orange, some said green. Which is it?

It rained about a week ago, and I had no problem sliding around. I have no problem getting sideways when it’s dry either, but I’ve never tried to do donuts or hold it sideways for more than a 90 degree left turn would allow. I really don’t want to get there and have the car stop me from getting everything out of the event.

I really wanted to stay out of this discussion but I am concerned for your safety and feel like I should tell you that you shouldn't participate in this event.
The fact that your asking if very concerning. Yes you can turn off the traction control but not the vdc.The only reason you would want to mess with the yaw or pull a fuse is to Do burnouts only. As you can not put your foot on the brake and gas without bogging down unless you have a tune .the vdc will kick on if one of the tires has absolutely no traction as its meant to steer the car.
unless you have a upgrade diff your car will be extremely unpredictable once the diff gets hot as its limited slip. Yes you will be able to do a few drifts or power slides until the oil gets hot up in the rear. Please please dont be that guy. The stock diff is more for a few pulls not really a event. I said my concerns. please stay safe brother

Thank you for your concerns birdie, I’ll consider upgrading my differential in the future. I was getting worried about the yaw sensor disrupting something because of other threads I’ve read on this site and elsewhere where people are complaining about vdc never being fully off. Whether this applies to my specific model or not is unknown to me. It’s not a huge event, I might get an hour total in my car. I’d like to have some fun in a controlled environment where I don’t have to worry about the police or the public.

Well sounds like you are going for it. You should be fine for the most part with the traction control off ,unless like I said you hit a BUMP(POTHOLE) or go off the track a bit then vdc with likely kick on. the only tip I have is make sure you have plenty of fuel. taking the right turn will push fuel to driver side of fuel tank away from pump and cause you to stall.might take awhile to restart. Have fun.

Thank you.

is this thread BS? https://www.myg37.com/forums/engine-...bling-vdc.html

Additionally, what do you mean by unpredictability when the diff oil is hot? The limited slip won’t work as designed and power might only be applied to one wheel? Something more sinister?

Cant really speak for that tread as removing the brakes light is unsafe

Not sure what your mileage is on your diff but maybe this explanation can help you on unpredictability

The diff will die very, very fast. And the oil inside never really recovers. You get some lock when it's cold, but it's functionally an open diff. I tend to lose any sort of limited slip after 1-2 laps on the track...

Just a heads up, I went to the event yesterday and everything went great.

Because the Vsld is finicky, there is a specific technique to hang out the rear end at low speeds. Dumping the clutch in 1st and initiating a donut that way doesn’t work very well. Turning in while already rolling and letting go of the wheel while hitting the gas works well.

It was an intro to drifting event on a skid pad, put on by Bay Area Drifting. I had a blast. A great place to learn your car and get the basics down.

Here are some videos:

Nice car control skills!
Did you pull any fuses or just turn off VDC?

You're already there! As you probably know when you're slipping and you have to turn it more towards the inside to obtain more slide is the diff letting go towards one wheel. LSD will give you better wheel controls for those counters.

Once you have located a LSD differential invest in a diff brace. The clunk you'll hear from the rear is the differential engaging since it's bushing moves quite a bit. Because of this abuse you'll wear the bushing faster than everyone else. This bushing is common maintenance for a few here, the brace helps keep whatever is left from giving you excess play.

Tires are the enemy, must destroy!!!

Nice vids! God these cars are fun, aren't they? I'm more into grip but i do enjoy a good ol' **** it lap at the track when you just want to make your tires sing and smell that melting goo. It sure isn't fun getting that crap off your paint though, huh? Lol
