Took The G Draggin Today

Car is a 2009 G37XS Sedan completely stock. Went to Lebanon Valley Dragway today in Upstate NY. Entered a King of the Hill race. Got eliminated 1st round but the G was pretty consistent I can't complain about the car. Racing all guys that race almost every week and have big slicks. Pretty happy but just wish I had more time trials and tried more RPM on launch. Seems like I should be getting out of the hole stronger it's not spinning at all. Posted slips below got a 13.688 best @ 100.88 cracked 101 on another run.

Impressive times for a stock G37XS - I believe these might be the best times I've seen for the AWD model in stock form.

2.05 short is decent for a rear wheel drive car, but for an AWD, it should be at least a 1.8 minimum. What rpm were you launching at? More practice will definitely help. Since these cars rev so high, I would try a 5500 launch. Your times will drop .15 in the quarter for every .1 in 60 foot reduction. Which means your 13.6 run would have been a 13.3 with a 1.8 short time.

Is it possible to brake torque a G at 5500rpms, or does the computer shut 'er down?

I noticed with mine the highest rpm I could brake torque it to was 1500. To go higher you would most likely need an aftermarket torque converter which would allow you to "stall" the car up to higher Rpms. And a 5500 rpm stall would be something you would see on a drag specific car. It wouldn't be very streetable.

But it's not full time AWD. 1.8's on street tires would be next to impossible for your average person. 2.0's are pretty good in that dept.

First off, my apologies, I thought you were a manual. Getting a 1.8 in an auto would require a converter upgrade, as mentioned.

Secondly, being AWD helps tremendously when launching a car as wheelspin is eliminated, even if its not full time.

Lastly, as drag racing is my forte, lower your air pressure in the tires. 25 in the rear, 42 in the front, remove any weight that was not in the car when you bought it. Make sure you are at a 1/4 tank or less fuel. Brake stalling as high as you can actually hurts you on a stock converter. Try revving to a mere 1200 rpm then flooring it on the third yellow. Although reaction time bears no impact on overall ET, it looks good on the timeslip. Make sure you let the car shift and not you.

Report back after your next outing.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I launched at 2200 the first run and 2000 the rest as I didn't want to red light during competition. Not sure how much higher I would be able to go without the car creeping forward. Never thought of trying to go even lower. This is my first car that is an auto that I've raced. I am used to racing my other car and getting a 1.6 60' so the 2.0 was disappointing. Do people normally get sub 2 second 60' with the awd G.

Oh yeah car was full weight I didn't take anything out to weight reduce. Gas was low though said 55miles till empty so gas was as low as I would be comfortable with having and doing a full day of racing and making it back to the gas station from the track.

From: Framingham Ma,
Our cars stink when mashing the pedal ( autos anyway) roll out with 1/4 throttle then mash it. I found that was the best for me.

Nice times too man, !

in what manner does the auto "stink"? When I mash my pedal, it spins all through first. Next race season, I will be on drag radials so thats not an issue.

one thing you don't want to do is have the car creep forward when power braking. I can hold it at 1900 rpms but if I go any higher the car will creep forward(pushing as hard as I can on the brake) and the rpms drop to 1500 rpms(giving more gas doesn't overcome this). This is why people do the brake light mod which doesn't let the car know your on the brake so if you creep forward or spin the tires while on the brake it wont restrict the rpms to 1500. Look it up. In my stock g37 sedan 7at RWD, when at the strip...my back tires spun alittle when power braking and the rpms lowered to 1500 and only got a 2.0 60 foot. But on a hard 1900 rpm punch I hit 1.88 60 foot with a 13.1 at the end. Not sure how the AWD system in the G's respond to different things but it could be holding back off the line for some reason. I know the AWD G's weigh more and lose more power to the ground which also could be why they don't take off as hard off the line.
