Are you sure your not thinking of the GT-R?
One of my best friends dad's has an athens blue g37s (standard).. my friend took his car out and i was beating him by about half a car length every time we would line up (60 rolls).. and i know hes a good shifter from experience the kid has never even owned an automatic car before.
It's hard for me to beleive that you have raced so many different G37s AND that you also know exactly what each drivetrane was. Sorry but this thread is a bit fishy. There is not enough weight difference between the different trims to have any significant winner in a drag race with stock engines.
A Base G vs a Sport G... regardless of tranny, has significantly less unsprung weight.
Brakes + rims + tires.
I'd guesstimate about a 10 lb difference (combined brake rotor, tire, and rim) each corner... 40 lbs of unsprung weight is a significant difference.
Anyone want to weigh everything?

Listen, the 6MT will absolutely beat the 5AT in a drag, everytime, given a good driver. Period. End of discusion.
The ability of the driver to have greater control over shifting compared to the car having complete control is the difference. All this nonsense of a few pounds due to the different brakes and wheels is ridiculous.
A 5AT can get a 13.7 1/4 mile by torque braking and mashing the gas, but the 6MT has potential to shave a few tenths off with an experienced driver. Do a search, you'll find the drag numbers to prove it.
Give me a break! 60 rolls?

Two equally transmissioned cars, one without and one with the sport packages, with equal drivers, will result in the same outcome every time. The sport will lose in a drag race.
Now, if we are talking about two 5AT cars head to head, with the same suspension, one car has significantly heavier wheels and or brakes than the other, then you have a good point.

Sure I do. Read my post again. I was implying that the two transmissions are NOT equal. It's a fact that the AT has less whp than a 6MT due to powertrain loss. I'm also suggesting that a 6MT has more driver interaction that can help shave a few tenths off your time.

YOu can even check the mags- the times are pretty much on par with each other.

I'd have to disagree.

I agree with you in theory. I can't speak on what the exactweight differences in the cars are however. With that said I remember in the previous generation that the sport rims were generally made to weigh less for its size. The brakes- There isn't too much difference between the size of the two. Head to head experiences have demonstrated to me that there isn't a significant difference in weight between the two.
Someone earlier mentioned how the driver makes a big difference....as for me, I have the S trim, and I hate how I can't always get a quick smooth launch. I blame my "skill" as a driver though and not the car. I still haven't found that sweet spot on the clutch and correct amount of gas to give to get that quick smooth launch. Tips?
