I did 3 runs in DS mode and 3 runs in manual mode. VDC OFF is a must. (I left VDC on for the start of the 3rd run but quickly turned it off after a few turns. It's way too aggressive for autox.)

I was happy with the handling. The stock tires let go very smoothly making noise as they go. Some R comps would really help of course and the car was heavy feeling but easy to steer and drive. Did not push easily , braked Very very well. I could throttle steer all day long but could also get it back the couple times when I gave it too much valve, (VVEL FTW).

In the manual mode on a pretty tight course I got to 2nd quickly and left it there. It is low enough for quick hard turns after braking and I never got enough speed to need 3rd. My time was decent compared to the other cars considering tires and how I usually do against the same guys. (I was the only one in the class FS, Rich you gotta come out there) .
Started reading this and thought that was you. I guess i am going to have to get out there now to give you some competition. I was wondering how different it was going to be from the STi since i did the same change. Too bad there were not any other FS class entrants to give you some comparison on the other models that run in that class. May have to come to the next one.

Assuming the 6MT driver can drive a stick properly. I can't tell you how many people I know who can't even rev match on a downshift before a turn. People like that lose to auto's.

Good to know. What wheel / tire set-up did you go with, if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks,
Tony

right now still using oem wheels till my track wheels arrive. but i have used both the bridgestone RE-01R and the Toyo R888 proxes...... the toyo was a little more grippy since its more of a track wheel. the re-01r while it is an r compound its a little harder but not by much...

Good to hear there are a few others AutoX'ing the car.

FS is going to be tough this year. Since it looks like Hoosiers and the new Toyo are the only 19 inch options, you have to choose between "serious / can't drive them to the event", and "not competitive". I've run Kumho 700's in the past, which were sticky enough to be in the hunt, but you could drive them to the autox / track. Something like that would be ideal for me, but I don't see anything in appropriate sizes.

I got some 18 X 8's for STX, and hopefully we'll have more options for next year.

the bridge stone Re01r and toyo r888 are great on the road. i run both and have no issues. just get super low miles. the re01r gets higher miles and is better on the street. also comes in 19"

Thanks for the quick reply!

The car didn't mind the smaller diameter tires (I assume you ran the 245/35-19 Bridgestones and 235/35-19 Toyos)? Some had said the VDC would puke if the diameter was more than a few tenths different than stock, but I always assumed it would be OK as long as the fronts and rears were consistent.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Good luck with your new wheels and tires (what are you going to, BTW?), and please post some pics / let us know how they work out!

+1 . I would really like to know what you are using for track wheels, too. Anybody else also. I ran V710's on My Sti and would love to have some wheels and similar tires for autoXing the G
