Stock 1/4 Mile 5at Run
I thought I did ok. Just before launch I realized I had my AC on. I turned it off just before the green light. I also bounced off the rev limter slightly in 1st... just a quick stumble but I don't think it hurt me too bad the car didn't bog I think the higher RPM in 2nd made up for it.
Thier tmeslip paper was kinda funky.

the mt should always be a good 2 3 tenths faster so lets say on a perfect situation he ran a 13.7 then a 13.4 maybe a little lower is more then possible on a 6mt. Add some sticky rubber quality tire great conditions and a 13.0 might be possible

...all indication is that they are running nearly the exact same. At least that's what all the mags and dynos indicate- only 2HP loss to the wheels in the AT vs the MT dyno on the Sedan. I would love to see someone hit low 13's but I dunno about that one...
its not about the HP loss its about the gear ratios of each car and the speed of shift's that can be attained in a mt over the slush box auto... I dont know any cars off the top of my head that the automatic version is faster or on par with the manual version. The only ones that are have true sequental trans i.e. bmw with SMG 2 and 3 Ferrari F1 gear box and so on.

There are plenty of other threads to pickup on the AT vs manual debate, so I would suggest not hijacking this thread to do it in. This was about the results I got on one run down the 1/4 mile track, not about what my car can do vs a manual...
But try the older Maximas, the 300ZX, Saturn Sky, Pontiac Solstice, new 911 Turbo just to name a few off the top of my head...
Until I see the numbers that show otherwise on the G37, I will include this in the list..

holy crap!!! 13.7s on an auto!...i thought 13.8 would never be broken by a stock G37 auto!....good job! i notice you have the 18s...that might have helped in lieu of the sport 19s.
what was your technique? did you turn VDC off??
CONGRATS!!

Actually I have the 19s
VDC off
Just slammed the pedal and let the torque converter do it's job (got very little wheel spin)
Used full manual mode and shifted 1-2 slightly into redline- actually that was driver error but apparently it didn't hurt and I got a nice kick in the butt shifting into second.
However I did have just shy of 30 miles of gas left. It gave the warning down the track. So that saved some weight.
I think the biggest aid was the cool crisp air (low 50's) and a near perfect launch- still basically a 13.8

hmmm...i think taking out the spare tire...running on the same amount of gas...no mistakes...and better tires will take a few more ticks off that time...
how many runs did you do?
