Post K&N 69 Series Typhoon Air Intakes - Issues

Hello All - I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, so please forgive me if I put this in the wrong place.

Basically what happened was I installed the air intake system (listed below) and everything was fine. I didn't notice any performance gain, just a really cool sound. A few months later I started developing a noise (unrelated to the noise this thread is about), swapped in the factory in take and took it to the dealer (since it is under warranty). I noticed on the way to the dealer that I get this rattling like sound in 2 & 3rd gear (maybe?) at around 4k RPM. Swapped back to the K&N afterwards and still have that sound.

I cleaned the MAF sesnors with CRC cleaner and did not affect the issue (I was thinking it is engine knock and this may have helped).

Any ideas?

YouTube Link of the problem:
Starts at 0:05 seconds and last till about 0:08
(short and sweet video and you hear the issue)

(longer video 2mins)

Yo, Kingdingaling lol I know this may sound dumb but from the videos it sounds like a interior part is rattling from the drone of your exhaust or something causing vibrations. The chrome trim along the sides of the center console make the same noise in my car sometimes, especially when its cold. Doesn't seem mechanical from the videos. I think it's from the note of the exhaust around 3-4K. Empty out your center console. Move your seats up and remove loose change and then drive around again. I know it sounds stupid but that's what it sounds like from the video,

Yes I have done that and just did it again on my lunch break...unfortunately this sound appears to be coming from the engine bay (right behind the stereo). Which leads me to believe it is engine knock based off other Youtube videos I have seen.

I don't understand how a G37 with only 16k miles would develop this..I live in Colorado so we have high altitude, I currently have Castrol GTX full synthetic oil, always use 91+ even though I don't need to up here, I even have this sound with the stock intake. I think it is time to take advantage of Infiniti's warranty...I was hoping someone could help me here.

I don't know how to feel about Inifiniti after this. I think I may have to switch it up at the end of the lease.

That is not engine knock ... You're just being paranoid bid you're engine was really knocking you'd it would be super loud and get much worse. Also you wouldn't be able to drive hard without it shutting itself. It's just a dash rattle. Unless your intakes are vibrating on the strut towers. Or maybe it's your engine cover. Hit around on the engine bay and see if you get any rattles. It's not internal.

I have...I hear a rattle around the throttle bodies (left and right). But that is most likely normal?

You mean during idle? The clicking noise? That is normal. You're either hearing the injectors or valves or something clicking. The VQ37 does that at idle. I would start with where the dash meets the windshield. Stick something into the crack between the windshield and the dash. (Foam or thin plastic, even your fingers while you're driving to see if it stops). The VQ will also be a little noisy when revving. Can't remember if it's the can actuators or whatever they're called but they're notorious for clicking. Especially with thin oil. But it's not loud enough to come through the fire wall.

If you really want to see if it's in the engine bay tape your phone somewhere, like on top of the strut tower, and drive around while recording. I'd put a terry cloth underneath it so you don't get any vibrations or something weird. If the noise is coming from the engine it will be loud af in the engine bay

why am i given a title option?

No, when I was installing my air intake, I notice that when I tap on the intake manifold it makes a high pitched rattling/ringing sound for a split second after the tap (the car was obviously off). It sounded like it was coming from the throttle bodies.

But I do have a huge crack on the windshield, I'll try putting something in between the windshield and dash. I hope that is my issue. Thanks for the help and I'll let you know my finding.

Lemme go beat on mine and see what it does lmao. Jk. But you might be hearing the the throttle body mechanism. I think the butterfly's are spring loaded or something. While I was wrapping up an engine that someone pulled from a m37 I noticed that as well. But anyways. Let me know what you find sir

towel in between dash and windshield

i stuffed a towel in between the dash and windshield, so much so the dash went in a tiny bit. Still had the same damn sound....it even sounds worse in this cold weather.

The sound clearly is coming from the dash area, specifically by/behind the radio/display screen. It almost sounds as if the speaker is loose or something, but that shouldn't be the case as no one has even opened that area of the car.

Damn man that's weird. I know the bezel that surround my screen did that once. I squeezed it around the corners and hit it and it stopped. Sm just try's lol the dash pieces. My car also makes more noises when it's cold. My center console doesn't squeak in the summer

I appreciate the help, I think I'll just take it to the dealer....it should be covered under warranty.

Oh. I thought you didn't have a warranty this entire time. Carful though. The dealer isn't always safe lmao. They could pull the dash apart and cause more rattles. I would tinker with it for another week before they start digging into ****. If you have an after market exhaust they might tell you to put it back to stock along with the intakes. I'm sure they'll find a way to blame them saying that they cause pulsing or vibrations that make the rattle haha are you running an after market exhaust?

No aftermarkets besides the intake system and paddle shifter upgrade kit (OEM). The rattling is definitely not coming from the steering wheel area so I think it is safe to rule the paddle shifters out.

They may see stripped bolts from the removal/adding of the intake system but I'll just play dumb and tell them it was always stock
