Garrett T28 Turbo

I have a buddy that took his Garrett T28 off of his Honda when he sold it. He is offering to sell it to me for $300. Does anyone know anything good/bad about this turbo? Is it a universal fit and fit on a 2008 G37 or does it just fit the Honda. There is not a lot of info online about this turbo. How much power is it going to give me? I know nothing about FI except it will make my car faster.

Thanks in advance

Afaik, even if that fits you will need a lot more parts than just a turbo to make it work.

As has been said before, turbocharging a G37 is not as easy as simply buying a turbocharger. You need SO much more as far as parts and equipment. To begin with, I haven't even tried calculating a dual setup, but I am pressure that a T28 turbo won't even be close to enough for a single-turbo build. It might be good for a twin turbo, setup. You'll need the appropriate turbo manifold, an intercooler, the relevant piping, a downpipe, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, a tune, probably better spark plugs...the list goes on.

IMHO if you ever went turbo I'd get a complete kit that is designed specifically for our car. You will typically run into issues with universal type parts that will require adjustment and fabrication to fit perfectly.

Also as previously mentioned there is A LOT of parts needed for a turbo build and about another $4k in labor for installation on top of that, of course varying by mechanic but 2 shops i've asked about quotes about gave me the 4k price range. there is good reason behind turbo kits costing 8-10 grand, new. a lot of parts and a lot of R&D fitting them specifically to our cars. Even if you got a good deal on the turbo, you're probably going to have to buy all the rest of the items individually. It just doesn't seem practical or cost effective to try to build a custom turbo kit to get a deal on 1 part.

If youre very serious about FI though, you may be able to find a good deal on a 2nd-hand complete kit for a good price.

my 2 cents
