posted on driver awhile back... long but funny as hell
Interesting conversation I had in my Auto Class. This is long, but I think worth the read if you're bored.
I don't remember EXACTLY how it went but here goes what I know from memory.
First time we were able to bring our own cars into the shop. So I bring my evo and I start working on it with a couple of my friends as well as some few random people I didn't know who were just interested. I notice some dude just standing in the background watching us (creepy) but pay no attention to it.
Fast forward later, when I take my car out and park it back in the lot and return to the shop. He approaches me and here's how it goes
Him: Hey man, nice car.
Me: Thanks.
Him: Is it turbo'd?
Me: Yup. My friend's eclipse as well.
Him: Nice. It's AWD right?
Me: Yeah.
Him: Is that an automatic or manual? (LOL)
Me: It's a 5 speed.
Him: Cool. What kind of turbo do you have?
Me: It's a GT30 right now but I'm looking to upgrade to an HTA35 and hope to break 500whp soon.
Him: What is your power right now?
Me: Just over 400.
Him: Oh nice.
Me: Did you bring your car in?
Him: No man. My license got suspended.
Me: Oh really? What happened?
Him: I got caught doing about 190MPH on 280.
Me: Seriously? Why were you going that fast?
Him: Well I had my 300ZX that was pushing about 1200HP.
Me: Oh, nice. Those are twin turbo right?
Him: Oh no, I had the R34 engine.
Me: RB26?
Him: The R34 engine from the Skyline GTR.
Me: Yeah, I think that's the RB26.
Him: Yeah, it's the R34. (at this point i'm like ..... whatever)
Me: Oh I see. Twin turbo right?
Him: No, I had the quad turbo.
Me: Four turbos?
Him: Yeah, quad turbo R34 engine. We swapped it into my 300ZX.
Me: Ahh, which shop did you go to for this swap?
Him: It's actually my uncles shop.
Me: What's it called?
Him: It's actually an underground shop. We do everything on the street man.
Me: What do you mean?
Him: We will just work on our car on the side of the street.
Me: Oh. (At this point, I pretty much concluded that this so called "shop" was BS.)
Him: So you race your car?
Me: I might take it to Infineon soon, after I get some things fixed.
Him: Single turbo right?
Me: Yeah.
Him: You should put a quad turbo on it. (I start cracking up after hearing this.)
Me: No, thats not going to work. There's no way I would be able to spool 4 different turbos. Even if I could, theres no room in the engine bay to fit this. There's a tuner that has done a twin turbo evo but the results were nothing spectacular.
Him: You should try a quad turbo though, you will probably hit 1000HP.
Me: You can do that on a single turbo, AMS has hit 1200.
Him: How about your exhaust?
Me: Yeah, what about it?
Him: What kind is it? Single chamber? Six chamber?
Me: What do you mean chamber? (I have no idea what he was talking about)
Him: I had a six-chamber on my 300ZX. It's good power and loud.
Me: I don't know what a six or single chamber is.
Him: What kind of exhaust do you have?
Me: It's an Apexi 3" with test pipes.
Him: Single or dual chamber?
Me: I don't know what you're talking about.
Him: You should get a 6 chamber exhaust. (Seriously, he keeps telling me this)
Me: Yeah, i'll take a look at those.
Me: What do you drive now?
Him: I don't have a car, my license is suspended.
Me: Oh, over the speeding issue?
Him: Yes.
Slight conversation pause. I went to talk with my friend. And then...
Him: Do you drift?
Me: Nope.
Him: Oh. I drift sometimes. Do you know that area around Serramonte near that closed down dealership?
Me: The old Mitsubishi or Chrysler dealership?
Him: Yeah.
Me: Yup, what about it?
Him: I was drifting around there at that intersection. That is where I learned. (Some of you might know immediately what came to my head after I heard this)
Me: How do you drift there? There is like no empty place there.
Him: You go at night. I also raced my friend's GT-R with my 300ZX.
Me: New GT-R? (At this point, my friend is standing next to me listening to this)
Him: Yes, the 2011.
Me: REALLY? How did he manage to buy it?
Him: His dad owns an oil company in China.
Me: Oh, I see.
Him: Anyway, you know Tanforan and Serramonte mall?
Me: Yes.
Him: I had my 300ZX and he had his GT-R and we race from Tanforan to Serramonte and I BEAT him. Not even close race man. He lost really bad.
Me: You raced from Tanforan to Serramonte?
Him: Yes, I was too quick. GT-R is slow compared to my 300ZX.
Me: But Tanforan to Serramonte is not exactly a race to see who has the fastest car. There's like a bunch of traffic and stop lights...
Him: Yeah, we had to race around the stop lights.
Me: That's like a race to see who has a better navigation system. Not a race to see who has a faster car.
Him: I still beat him easily.
Me: (laughing)
Him: Yeah, I miss my 300ZX. I drove my friends 350Z with 350HP and I could not even feel the power.
Me: You can't feel 350HP?
Him: Not anymore, 350HP is too slow now, I do not even notice it.
Me: Really?
Him: Yes. My dad let me borrow his friend's Dodge Viper, and THAT IS FAST. I drifted it near Serramonte. You can just release the clutch, and it does a burn out.
Me: You just release the clutch and it starts burning out? (luls)
Him: Yeah, it's so fast.
Me: Must be all of the low end torque.
Me: Wait, you drifted it?
Him: Yeah, I drifted it around Serramonte.
Me: I would not even try that. I can't imagine crashing it.
Him: Well I am a good drifter. My dad taught me, and he made sure I learn properly so i never make a mistake.
Me: But who would let you drift their Viper?
Him: Well, the owner is a friend and they told us the rear tires are bald so we just drifted it while its bald.
Me: Hmm I see.
My friend decides he's going to head out and asks me if I'm sticking around. I decide to ditch this guy and leave.
In conclusion. What I got from this conversation...
He got pulled over doing 190 on highway 280.
Has a 300ZX
- RB26 Swap
- Quad Turbo
- Thus making it a RB26DETTTT
Recommends I get a six-chamber exhaust for my evo
Recommends I install FOUR turbos on my evo
He doesn't do straight street races. He races from Tanforan to Serrramonte. (epic)
He's a pro drifter.
His friend's GT-R is slow.
He drifted a Viper at Serramonte and was allowed to do so by the owner of the Viper due to "Bald tires"
1200HP Nissan 300ZX RB26DETTTT. Sweet.

^^Wow...what a lucky guy!
Had those NS-II on my old car. I thought they were decent tires as well (especially for the price). They seemed to have pretty good tire wear too.
I don't really push my car too much. Aside from maybe some aggressive accelerations here and there. I almost never go over 80 mph. Only ever got one speeding ticket for doing 75 in a 55. Stupid Eden Prairie cops...

Another random question... How aggressively do you guys drive your cars? Me, I've had my fair share of tickets not to mention my doing 90 in a 50 that cost 600 bucks when I was younger. I rarely see redline in my car. When I do, I feel bad like: Aww I'm pushing u too hard lol... I'm more of a safe and cautious driver now. I'm getting old...
After he said he was doing 190mph on 280, he is totally full of BS.
I've had my Stealth up to 165mph. It takes a very long (at least 4 miles), straight and smooth road to do that kind of speed. And you need it empty of other cars. 280 would not qualify for any of that. And there is a big difference between 165mph and 190mph. I doubt any 300ZX has done 190mph. The gearing in the transmission probably wouldn't even let you get to that speed.

Curt

Good call on this Curt!!!^^
..on a side note, is the holidays taking a toll on everyone else as it is on me??? Especially my bank acct. MAN, our laptop got a virus so its been at Best Buy for the past week...they told us it'll cost probably as much as a new laptop if its the motherboard so I'll be looking at that. My impala I took in for just a quick oil change, needed a new battery and fuel regulator and actually needs a few other parts for suspension but I can deal w/ some banging here and there....but MAN, if its not one thing its another. Looking forward to a new year for 2012!!!!!!!
i should be able to help you out with some of that with rent if that happens! hahah
and btw, def stay away from the nankang ns2.. dont get sucked in by the prices, opt up for the v12, which are SO much better... but this is also my texas eperience, not sure about it in the weather up there.

It really does take some time to get your mph up there. When I had my rsx-s (this is the only time I drove it this fast) I got it up to 140 but then was like nahh, this is fast enough for me. Then I got pulled over at 90 in a 50.
As for tires, the choices the guy had for mw were fallen 452 or ns2. Idk if I like the wear on the falkens from what I've read, but the ns2 were pretty good imo. Idk, maybe ill just opt for the v12s.

Hankook V12s for sure.
As for speeding.... i am not one into jamming 1st to 2nd all the time, but i usually get on the freeway in 2nd and run it through third into 4th if I am going to run it through the gears.
As for higher speeds... I can't be truthful like Peng and say I never go over 80... Thats usually what I set my cruise on when i go back to school in fargo, and I generally run her into the triple digits at least once on the way up (usually just roll it up in 6th when I see an empty stretch)
This car doens't take very long, so it kinda just draws me in...
And Lance, the guy PMd me back so we will see.
Tevi, I am here until Saturday.

Had anyone topped out their G? I've gotten up to about 145 in a little less than 2 miles then backed off cuz it was night time and between a couple corn fields this fall and didn't feel like finding a deer at that speed.
I know Janik got his about as close as any of us ever will, if not all out. I would definitely stay away from the Nankangs, they came on my M I had back in 09 and it was terrible! They were somehow off balance and couldn't be balanced, so the steering wheel was all over. I'm not sure if it was the stock 19s actually or the nankangs, but regardless it was horrible. It drove perfectly with my 20s on tho
I would definitely look into the v12s for the meantime, of course I wouldn't recommend any crazy twisties with them considering the sidewall. But daily driving you will be just fine!

I'm not sure if the talk is appropriate for the forums since they might consider it racing....but that's up to Lance
