Hello:

I have a G37 sedan sport so wheel clearance on 18" is .. fun. The stock "duckfeet" wheels on a sport are 18x7.5 front and 18x8.5 rear... I want to go square 18x8.5 so I can actually rotate tires properly.

I am looking for the two rear wheels (on a Sport), 8.5" wide, NOT the G37x since they are 7.5s and that would not be good in the rear. If you are only selling the full set I will consider it. Tires not needed or wanted, but again I'll deal with them if I must. WI area, will drive a state ish so let me know if you are in-region.

I see these listed on offer-up every now and then, but the rears always seem to have curb rash. The "Hyper-Silver" is tough to match, so the mobile wheel service guys I've used in the past always provide a disclaimer about matching the particular color Infiniti used.

Did you have any luck with this? Recent issue with my 11 sport rear 8.5 getting bent up and debating finding a set for front and having all 8.5 all around but matching hyper silver or avoiding 7.5 seems to be the issue…

I have held off since the duckfeet wheels are not my favorite... buying two to resolve the f/r stagger is worth it, I guess, but I am contemplating just replacing all four. But these would be winter wheels so differences in finish is not a huge concern for me.

It's just if I want to keep 18" wheels with a sport sedan the choices are super few because of the wheel/spoke profile needed to clear the Akebonos.

Is the wheel repairable? A local shop may be able to fix it, and potentially refinish it to match your other wheels. Up to you.

oh ok and that makes sense… I’m just thinking on same lines as the option to rotate as well with minimal investment, so figured the 8.5s all around would work, but yes , not the ideal rim for sure on sport sedan , but for my needs it works. So yes , may fix my bent rim and if that works , will find one more and call it a day , at least for now… if you do decide to upgrade , let me know , and if the whole bent rim works will be looking for at least one more if you decide to get rid of them as winter wheels..

Check tirerack under G37 Sport Sedan, they'll all clear the akebonos from what I remember. They have a decent selection of 18" wheels, especially if you're going for a squared setup for winter.

I have a staggered set of duckfeet from the sport sedan on summer tires I will likely be selling this summer, though I don't know if I'd let half the set go. Would depend on price. Tires were put on last summer, but I'm looking to upgrade to 19's. Located in Chicago. Maybe you could buy the set, keep the 8.5 and sell the 7.5's and your 7.5's as a set? Just a thought

Well, a Sport Sedan with the 18" wheels and Akebonos means virtually no 18" wheels will fit, it requires an extremely square hub/spoke profile. So there are about a dozen wheels on TR that will fit, none that are pretty to look at. I think I've found a couple dozen wheels period in 18" that fit. Going to 19s would resolve it, but it comes with increased harshness and unsprung weight.

Re: selling your staggered wheels, that is an interesting idea. I am about two hours away in WI so we are fairly close. How is the wheel condition? Chicago is kinda notorious for wheel rash and dings...

There's at least a 3 pound variation in weight between brand/model tires. Meaning, wheels aren't the only source of rotating weight.

Also, you can easily find 19" wheels that weigh less than your duckfeet. And assuming you configure the same rolling diameter, losing a half inch on the profile doesn't automatically translate to a harsh ride. On top of that, 19s just look better on the Sedan, which is my own subjective opinion, but I suspect it's a popular one.

I know this is generalized advice, but if you start your research with rigid preconceptions then your options will only narrow.

I appreciate the feedback. I didn't put it in the post, but I have spent dozens of hours after purchasing the car working with a very good local tire shop, online retailers, etc. What I am looking for is a square set of cheap wheels for winter that hold up well. Since my G37 has the akebonos that limits the 18" wheels very significantly, so the factory wheel hits the mark perfectly as they are finished well, relatively cheap, and 18". And square.

Re: hardness/unsprung weight - tire rack says all 18" tires in my sizes are between 17-18 lbs in summer performance category. The difference between 18" wheels and 19" wheels and tires sets is several pounds per corner. The harshness difference is notable. I recently spent quite some time comparing my Cayman in 18" and 19" wheels on the same roads with the same tire. The difference was notable, so I ditched the Champion 19" wheels and bought a $2500 set of Vertini VS06s... which are lovely, lighter, and ride much better with the same tire.

All other things being the same, the 18" setup has significant advantages over the 19" for me, if the wheel fits over my calipers. I had to custom order the Vertinis for the Cayman since I have Stoptech Trophy brakes on there for the track.
