Stillen Catback and Kinetix HFC

Hey guys just wanted to put something out here for anyone that might be looking into getting these for there G. I purchased these weeks apart but they both ended up getting delivered roughly around the same time. First that came was the exhaust. Drove around for a little bit more than a week with just the stillen exhaust. I have to say I think it sounded great. I was very pleased with the exhaust tone. Welds were nice how you would expect with a stillen product. Install was fairly easy put it on in my driveway on jack stands. Just horrible working with such little space.

Yesterday I installed the kinetix HFCs. When I purchased the cats I also ordered the gaskets that z1 sells for the cats. The ones that came with the kinetix definitely would have been fine, but the z1s are way better quality. I'm a sales Consultant at an infiniti dealership so naturally it was way easier to do the cats at work with a tech helping me out. Thankful I didn't attempt to do in my driveway like the catback. Bolts gave some resistance but overall ended up being easier than the cat back install.

At start up little raspy, but from what I understand is completely normal on a cold start and with the new cats. Very pleased with the new sound and little extra pull of power in the higher rpm range. In a heavy acceleration the car sounds unbelievable, loud but not bad quality loud. The car feels like it really has woken up and is alive. No check engine light which was my one worry. Now onto my last piece of the puzzle before adding any additional power modifications. The tune is next. I have made up my mind that I will be using admintuning. Just not sure method of tune yet. Might just do the remote tune, but I live close to NY so he has a dyno tune day in July I believe.

Definitely pleased with the end product.

I thought it was just me, but my passenger side muffler looks like it is on a little bit of an angle not much but now that you mentioned it I know I'm not crazy.

You can give me your passenger side and they can match. I did email stillen last year but never heard back but going to reach out to them again about the rust on the welds

Welcome.

It looks like you're on a similar path that I took with the mods. I was surprised at the addition of power that each well researched mod gave. This engine continues to show itself more and more for me

Same thing with mine almost like its on an angle. I'm going to snap some pics from underneath for the high flow cats and the cat back. It looks so nice under there being all new not rusted and beat up like the old exhaust.

Fitment issues might be your old hangers, and not the exhaust. When the cans are misaligned to the bumper cutout, and/or not actually parallel to the pavement, well that kind of thing will drive you nuts. Or not, tolerance for good-enough is a personal decision that every single person makes when modifying their car.

For about a year or so, I kept looking at my driver-side exhaust, thinking something wasn't right. Eventually I came to realize the fitment needed to be addressed, and my local shop took care of it, replacing hangers while doing so. I started thinking it was an easy DIY, until I snapped some rusty old bolts because apparently I'm an idiot. Take note, the rear-most hangers are actually kind of expensive, being this upside-down assembly, not just generic rubber hangers.

I think Stillen exhausts look and sound just fine. It's not top-shelf, and more quiet than most, but if the fitment is good and you keep the cans & tips clean, it can be a solid choice. Very OEM-ism. In fact, some dealerships would offer Stillen exhausts as a dealer-installed upgrade.

I don’t think it would be the hangers since the factory exhaust was straight and not misaligned the stillen is hand made in a jig or something like that so if they weld the hanger on wrong I think that cause the problem

As of now I am in the mental space of good enough for now. I am sure once all the other boxes of modifications are checked off my list that will be on the next list. The stillen is not over powering which I do like, the high flow cats have added a little bit extra on start up and open throttle. I am starting to get toward the end of my original list, and I have to say I would do somethings differently but overall I am happy at this point in time.

The factory exhaust is one muffler with both tips attached, so it's naturally going to hang more evenly than the separate mufflers of the Stillen kit due to the multiple mounting points (eg. if your hangers were getting worn out you likely wouldn't have noticed since the weight is more distributed with the factory setup)

Do you still have the stock resonators? "Sounds" like it.
