Forgive me in advance if you can, I have a bunch of NOOB google mechanic questions because I know close to nothing about cars. This whole G37 (2011 sedan) has been an education. So I've had my eye on a particular set of intakes for while now, and it looks like most aftermarket intakes have a finger that goes to what google has told me is a resonator. I've seen folks that remove this resonator to improve sound maybe more. I'm no expert just a google mechanic. So in the below picture. My question is what is this part that is circled. What is it going to? Why do I need it? Is there a hose that I can buy that will connect the aftermarket intake to the resonator? Is this something I want to do? Where can I get such a hose. This seems to be the path of least resistance. But there is more below the pic...

These hoses that go down into I don't know what, and another hose that comes up from I don't know what, into I don't know what. The description they give sucks. Sure these hoses are better than old rubber cracking ones...no ****. This is for both intakes. PCV breather hoses they say. Still more posts talk about a PCV delete kit, or they take these same hoses and route them to a catch can of sorts. The catch can option sounds like a good idea to me as well. I don't even know what to search for. If anyone is able to point me in the right direction. That would be awesome. So much to learn! Mods, I hope I posted this in the right place. In my research Ive run into threads that say this intake resonator box is baffled. Does this mean this baffled resonator box also acts as an oil separator? In which case, perhaps a dedicated catch can would be beneficial? I'm just typing out thoughts. Hopefully someone with more knowledge is able to chime in. I'll keep researching and update this thread accordingly. I cant be the only person asking this question. Wasted a workday because I couldn't get this out of my mind lol.

 

Depends on which intake you buy. I re-used my stock ones for my R2C intake.

Thanks. I ended up finding a 5/8ths hose. This way I retain the stock setup but now I know what to do when the time comes. When I am ready to install the catch can, I'll look into the closed loop at that time.
