Cat-back exhaust
Cat-back exhaust
I'm looking for recommendations for a cat- back exhaust. I'd like something that's not to loud and obnoxious but has a nice sound to it and has good bang for the buck. Not looking to break the bank. Keep in mind I drive my 9 yr and 8 month old daughters in the car. I have a 2010 sedan. Much appreciated!

Funny guy.
OP, the Motordyne Shockwave is not only one of the more expensive catbacks available, it's also one of the loudest. It's also worth every penny, and sounds fantastic... but that wasn't your ask.
The Tanabe axle-back will look much better than the OEM cans & tips, it's a DIY install (because axle-back), and will introduce a small change in exhaust note, not at all loud, just a little different. You could also buy a pair of 12" Vibrant resonators and have a shop cut out your OEM resonators. It will take some skills, however, and a number of labor hours for lift-time, but still a reasonable cost for a project like this.
As for your kids... anyone with kids and a loud exhaust will tell you this: kids absolutely love loud exhausts. It makes the ride fun for the older ones, and it puts babies right to sleep.
And that's about all the spoonfeeding necessary here. You've found the right sub-forum. Enjoy your research.

The Tanabe Medallion is an axle-back, not a cat-back. If you've a torn flex section, probably better to replace the whole thing rather than repair.
Research the Invidia Q300. Also Top Speed. Both are under a grand, IIRC. Or start trolling the FS threads, because this stuff pops up all the time.

ARK is definitely louder than stock but not so loud it's difficult to have a conversation in your car. To me, it's a pretty quiet exhaust (too quiet for me)....but of all the "quieter" exhausts, ARK is on the louder end of the spectrum...if that makes any sense lol might be a good fit for you though

Most guys that run Tanabes add in Vibrants as Rochester suggested. The build quality is excellent on them, but I'd really only run it if you can snag a used one (as I did); as the $500+ new price isn't worth it compared to the other ~ $1K catback options.
Keep in mind, axel backs are purely for sound and you won't gain performance.
Tanabe is much quieter than Ark. I've run it for nearly 2 years, and is just slightly more throaty than stock- mostly noticeable at WOT.
