How good is the stock exhaust?

I'm finally getting some overtime at work which means more money. Been looking at getting an exhaust for a while now and I honestly think the stock exhaust sounds pretty good but how is the air flow on it. I'm gonna get an aftermarket exhaust anyway and I wanted something that sounded like a Ford GT. Obviously it's a different engine and I don't have a twin turbo but what exhaust might sound pretty close?

I posted this so someone could answer not direct me to a search engine. I don't have time to watch a 7 minute video or sort thru a bunch of info. I'm not mad I'm just tired of people on forums saying look it up as an answer.

And we get tired of getting asked the same question day after day.

-Motordyne
-Fast Intentions
-Z1
-SOHO

Do your research and see what you like best.

Billy, feel free to say what you want to say, but do it in a way that doesn't give the moderators lip. Consider this fair warning.

There's no such thing as an exhaust for the G that will make it sound like a Ford GT Super car. Your closest effort would be to get resonated cats that use a Helmholtz resonator, matched to a wide-pipe catback also with a Helmholtz resonator, then get the car tuned. If you do that, your humble G will sound ridiculously amazing, and wake the dead.

But it still won't sound like a Fort GT. Unless you mean "Mustang GT", in which case it won't sound like that either.

Not trying to give anybody ****, was in a bad mood. I've been on forums where people think a link to Google is a good answer. I also get that the same question gets old.
I'll have to look into that set up. I know it wouldn't sound like a Stang GT. V8 and V6 sound complete different. Is the stock exhaust pretty restrictive?

Not really. Between replacing cats or replacing the catback, high-flow cats will give you the better gains... but it's pretty minimal, and comes with a whole host of other issues, like hoping to avoid an O2 CEL. The setup I described... after parts (and probably labor) and a tune, could easily tip over $3000.

It reads like you're more interested in sound than grunt, and that's totally fine. Based on that, and a cost that could get out of hand for someone excited about overtime pay, you might want to just target savings for a cat-back. Specifically the Ark GRIP or the Motordyne Shockwave (both use the Helmholtz design for resonators).

As a 6mt driver, I found it difficult to tell when I was on/off the throttle with the stock exhaust. Q300 solved the problem with minimal expense (~$800 or $900). It's not obnoxiously loud, but loud enough when you put your foot into it. Was it worth the money? Probably not. But then again, most mods are more for self gratification than anything else

I am interested in increasing power, I think there are better ways of doing it than exhaust. Not saying it's not important, just I'm more interested in noise from exhaust. Not the obnoxious ricer stuff. For power I would love the stillen supercharger. If there's any cheaper options out there I would like to hear about them. Twin turbo isn't out of the question yet either. Right now I'm a little tight on money but it's getting better with overtime.

Z1 offers a 400HP package but then you will need a CAI and CBE to get close to those numbers

For sound - Nothing beats meisterschaft GTC valvetronic exhaust set up (IMO)

Might have to put this on hold again. Overtime got cancelled. I'm an assembly guy for air compressors and the customer pulled out of a big order. I told one of the guys I'm calling the company and demanding a free exhaust kit of my choice for taking my overtime. Not really but it would be funny, even funnier if they did it.

There's a pull n pay place nearby and they had a bunch of the grand Prix gxp turbos. Could I possibly use the turbos from them for a twin turbo set up?

This has run its course. You're bailing out on your exhaust goals, and now are talking about twin-turbos from a junkyard.

If you want to start a new thread in the forced induction forum, go for it. But this is done.
