Cold Air Decision

Cold Air Decision
Hey Guys. New to Infiniti and the G37 world.
Loving her so far. Just picked up a 2011 G37x w/88k
ive always added CAI. mostly for the throaty sound and whistle. The G37 already performs and operates like a beast.
My question is, are the $70 kits just as affective as the $400-500 Name Brands???
My super gear head buddy who builds everything from diesel trucks to his own G35 coupe says as long as its air tight at the connections, the brand doesn’t matter.
currentky having the 19” 10spokes painted black, Tesla Style AV system in the mail. Tint tomorrow. GTR push in the mail.
CAI is next.

If you're looking to go budget, just get a set of K&N filters. They've been dyno proven to add 10hp. Personally, I'd recommend biting the bullet and grabbing a used set of CAIs on this forum wen they become available; especially if you plan on tuning. That's really where they can be maximized.

I'd just get a used set of any of the major CAI players. I just sold my Stillen Gen 3's for $150 + his stock air boxes. People returning to stock like I was are your best bet for a trade like that.

if anyone comes across a good deal for a used one, please think of me. PayPal ready.

K&N drop in and post maf tubes are the best on a budget. Only slightly behind Z1 or Stillen style cai in gains and takes 30-60 min to install. Don't buy cheap ebay junk, an engine needs clean air

i found a used K&N asking 300. And I don’t want a filter for the stock box. I think the car performance is just fine. It’s my daily commuter. I just really enjoy a more muscular, sporty sound. I’m truly seeking the sound. I know enthusiast hate that, but is there really an argument about the stock performance already???

hey, I personally have tekeda cai n love it but my friend has a set of short ram intakes on his car n while mine receives colder air his is louder when your sitting in the driver seat so if your only going for sound I would say short ram ( can't remember any brands) for your needs. Good luck.

NO! Do not buy short rams! They make less power than the stock air boxes. They only make more if the hood is open on a dyno, close the hood and the heatsink kills the power. Waste of money

The stock air boxes already have cold air routing in.

Yes!
If you want to replace the Nissan-designed intake tract for looks or sound, go for it! If you're expecting significant gains in engine output w/out sacrificing engine longevity or reliability, you're deluding yourself.

Has anyone ever experimented with heat sheild wrap on their CAI pipes??? And wouldn’t heat soak affect all pipping that runs thru the engine bay??? Yes you may be pulling cold air from infront of the radiator but your pipes and manifold are directly near the engine and it’s heat...... and YESSSSS, again, I enjoy the throaty Intake growl. That’s the modification I’m seeking. We arent talking about the minor tweak of CAI, not picking a Turbo.
