Looking for suggestions on intake
Looking for suggestions on intake
Hello all, new here and to the scene in general. I own a 2012 G37X and have been thinking of doing some simple modifications to the car. The first thing i planned on doing was the intake and was hoping some of you with more knowledge than me could offer some suggestions? Thank you in advance! Edit: I suppose a budget might help. I'm looking to spend at the most around 300$, something in the 170-250$ range would be best.

unless you're looking to spend a couple hundred dollars for sucking noises, i wouldn't bother.
if you are going full bolt-on mods and a tune, sure, but with air intake alone you aren't going to gain any kind of extra power you'd notice (possibly even lose some low-end torque), and removing/cleaning the filters will be a PITA.
get some non-oiled drop-in filters for the stock intake - they are stupid-easy to remove and replace.

1. K&N drop in filters. easiest. will be direct replacement for your current filter. use same stock air box. no change in sound. slight performance gain.
2. any short ram intake. people call it a hot air intake because filter is right by all the heat sources. hot air = less power. arguably you will decrease your horsepower on a hot day. go this route for the sound.
3. takeda/stillen long pipe cai. this is real power gain. still not much though, so if you're expecting more than a couple of horsies, you will be disappointed. requires cutting a hole to create a vent for filter.
4. r2c paper filter. it's basically a short ram with a little bit better heat shield. it is also a paper filter. One of the more popular options here because it looks cool and sounds cool. And people some people prefer to go with paper filter.
overall, you're talking like 2-4hp difference no matter which direction you go.

i went with R2C Black Hex non-oiled drop ins. don't need to buy a cleaning and oiling kit - blow them clean with an air compressor ... if they're really dirty, use water.
also no chance of fouling the MAF sensor with over-oiling.
R2C PF10544 Black Hex drop in filter
R2C PF10544 Black Hex replacement filter - 07+ Infiniti G35s/G37
if i remember right, that price is for 1, and you''ll need 2. i'd double-check before ordering ....

K&N drop ins if you're on a budget and save up for 3" Admintuning intakes or AAM r line intakes. But then again Stillen gen3s used have been floating around in the low $300 range in both our classifieds and the370z classifieds.
I have the fortuneate abiility to have 2 coupes same year one has drop in kn filters with silicone intake pipes and other had kn intake kit they are the same on output just sound is louder with full intake
